Antidepressants for health anxiety

Hey Guys,

I need some advice…………I have been suffering from anxiety since the end of January mainly focusing on my health, so about 3 months. I have had some shocking days, spending days in ER rooms, doctors offices, looking up my symptoms on Goggle (never a good idea). It all started in when I woke up with chest pressure, well in my mind I was dying (I’m only 26)…………… fast forward to today the chest pains are still there and I have done all the tests, plus many more!!!! All have come up clear........

I want to get on top of this before it gets any worse. I have had so many other physical symptoms (other than chest pain) that I cant imagine going through the rest of the year feeling like this!!!! Im currently under the belief i have some serious diease (such as MS) that remains undetected!! which Im sure most health anxiety sufferers believe!!

I have been seeing a psychologist........had a few sessions………. She suggested I start on anti-depressants. I am exercising (well trying to) every day, I am reading a few books on anxiety, I not drinking alcohol, I am trying to meditate, having baths to curb stress, trying to get an understanding and using CBT.

Now my question is anyone else suffering from Health Anxiety and what has helped you deal with it? Have anti-depressants helped?? If so which ones? Any other suggestions? Any herbal solutions?

I saw a show which I don't think I can mention names but I heard passion flower works for anxiety - comes in liquid form. I bought a anxiety workbook and it explained all the symptoms of anxiety and how it can makes you feel. I then went and got a complete exam to see if something was wrong with me. So after I got a clean bill of health from the doctor. I dealt with the sensation or feeling I was having and talked to myself by repeating "I am fine, I am ok, it is just anxiety" I was trying to condition my mind that everything is fine and this will pass. This did not cure me because I still have anxiety from time to time but I recognize the feeling and it will pass. I don't take antidepressant because it only puts a band aid on the problem. I do meditation and exercise is excellent. I started acupuncture about a year ago and that helps. For me it is really conditioning the mind because that is where it comes from - to reassure the mind that this is just a feeling and it will pass.
 
I haven't personally struggled from health anxiety, but I know others close to me that have. Taking an antidepressant/anti-anxiety medication CAN help, but there are other things you can try to. Have you ever talked to a counselor about it? Definitely look into talking to someone you can trust. It helps to talk to someone with an unbiased opinion. Do you think there may be an underlying cause? Perhaps there is something deep inside causing this worry that you just need to figure out so you can work on it. Just know that you are not alone and that a lot of others struggle with this too.. unfortunately it ISN'T an easy cure and will take time, but with patience and effort, you can overcome it! I haven't heard of any herbal cures for this. Vitamin B complex can often be used as a mood booster, although I'm not sure if it would help. YOu can always give it a try!

Thanks for the responses!! I am currently drinking passionflower tea..... not sure if its working or not :) thanks for the advice.... i will keep at it and see if i notice a different!!

I also know that antidepressants are not the answer but sometimes the feelings become so over whelming that i just want something to help them go away while im trying to deal with the anxiety mentally!!

Yep i am seeing someone......... she is the one who suggested antidepressants.... i told her i wasnt interested and she hasnt mentioned it since.... since then i have been having quiet a few bad days thats why i was wondering if taking something will help me get through :)

thanks for the advice....... i really do apprecaite it!! im hoping these natural ways to relieve anxiety will keep me going and i will not have to go onto any Antidepressants ........

If anyone is on anti depressants for health related anxiety i would love to hear from you and get some advice!!
