Antichrist - the film.

Who gives a toss what Kermode thinks, seriusly? Just because he's a paid "critic" doesn't make his opinions anymore valid than the chav sat in the back row flicking popcorn at everyone. For a start the guy deemed The Deer Hunter one of the worst films ever made. Go figure.
 
I was picking up what JCR said in post #24 so I suppose that means at least two in this thread pay attention to (but not necessarily agree) with his reviews.:p
 
Well, some pretentious films are very good.

What Antichrist does well is convey a sense that LVT was unwell during it's making. There's his nervous breakdown, available for all to purchase on blu-ray now.

On the other hand, Mark Kermode maybe right about it just being a big joke. The Cannes press conference where LVT told The Daily Mail he was the greatest director in the world and as such did not have to answer to them certainly backs up Kermode's theory.
 
No offence taken. I have no problem with robust exchanges provided they do not degenerate.:)
I find IMDB boarRAB very uneven in quality. What is it with all those withdrawn posts? And strange complaints about spoilers in discussion threaRAB? Any debate is going to involve revealing the plot to some extent.
 
I opened the thread in the vain hope that I'd get a rough idea of what the film was about and idea whether it would be watching.

I never suggested that anyone was a "dullard" and, tbh, I found your "absolute dross" comment very helpful, mate. :)
 
Thats the thing, if a "artistic" director attaches his name, all sorts of drivel will be rationalized, anything will bring out the apologists. I dont care if he lost his mind, what he put out was pure drivel. Its like saying a cr@p film is worthy because its evidence the director is an idiot. That alone has no value. Its just a statement of fact. He was mental, so other than the fact that he got some shmucks to fund him, i don't see anything worth praising there at all. Theres no insight, just stuff flung at the wall.

And yes, it might be true, if he's self aware enough to know he's feeding people cr@p it might be a big joke.
