Antibiotic allergy testing anxiety

Hello all! I was wanting to try and get some information and chat with people who have had antibiotic testing done. I am very nervous and dreading my testing in two weeks.
I have an anaphylactic reaction to two antibiotics and severe side effect type reaction to 4 more antibiotics. I know they will not be testing me for the two I have an anaphylactic reaction, but I am very worried that they will test me with new antibiotics or ones where I just have severe side effects. Either way, now that I have had two anaphylactic reactions, I am more likely to have another occur. I get so wiped out from it and it takes me at least two weeks just to recover 80%. It has been a month since my last reaction and I STILL have a swollen tongue with sores on the sides. I really don't wish to have that happen again. It just causes so much fear and anxiety in me when these reactions occur.
The only information I have so far is they will have me come in for 8 hours, take a small amount orally, then watch and wait. Then have me take more if I don't react. Here's my problem. I have a delayed reaction. My last reaction was from Omnnicef with a half life of 2 hours. I reacted the entire time I took it but didn't have the anaphylactic reaction until 2 days from when I stopped taking the drug. That is how delayed it is. Yet some I have an almost instant reaction, such as Bactrim, which caused me to react after the first dose. My fear is what if I react when the office is closed? I'll end up in the ER and the dr I will be working with will have no clue what kind or how severe my reaction was. Been there already, but I have a new doctor.
I really just want to hear from others what your experience with antibiotic testing was like. I am hoping to gain more information than, "You come in for 8 hours and take the drug orally" and I am hoping to calm my fears of the dreaded day.

Why are they doing it that way? Have they already done the skin tests? They wanted to test me for penicillin as the last time I took it was several decades ago and they want to see if I am still allergic. However, I decided not to do the testing as what happens is that I take a drug several times and am fine and then all of a sudden develop an allergy. The way it was described to me was that they would scratch the skin with a small amount. If I had no reaction after a time with that, then they would inject a small amount under the skin. If I still had no reaction,ONLY THEN I would take a small amount orally. I don't think I'd do that up front. And my allergy to penicillin is anaphalaxis...and pretty quickly too.
 
The reason they said that was that the scratch test for antibiotic allergies was inaccurate. They really haven't given me a ton of information, as I have a 2 hour consultation first. I was just hoping to calm my fears and hear other people's experiences first. :)
 
So is the purpose of this testing to determine what to give you in case of an infection? I've pretty much been told I won't get one unless absolutely necessary and then it will be in a hospital setting and possibly with a steroid.
 
Yes and that is what I am dreading. They will be checking to see if there are one or two that I can be desensitized to for emergency cases.

And as of tonight, I seem to be reacting to seasonal allergies that I have stopped treating because of the upcoming appointment.
 
All I can tell you is that I refused the testing. Just too nervous. And my issue is that I take an antibiotic for a while with no problems and then all of a sudden develop an allergy. So the testing won't prove anything other than I'm not allergic on that day. So, sorry, I'm not doing it. I'll just do my best to not get an infection that requires one.
