Anti-Warner publicity packet distributed to TV stations by Disney

Quite possibly the biggest rivals in the American Animation industry are Disney and Warner Bros. That being said, Cartoon Brew, the animation-dedicated blog, has unearthed an publicity packet from Walt Disney Television dating to 1989 sent to TV stations across the country. It was used to not only promote their then upcoming syndication package "The Disney Afternoon", along with serving as a vicious attack on Warner's syndicated kidvid offerings which, to me, brings the rivalry to levels beyond Red Sox vs. Yankees. Not only do they take aim at, yet to be premiered, Tiny Toon Adventures; but 1/2 hour Bugs Bunny showcases, calling the Wascally Wabbit "worn out and aged". To me, The Mouse making those claims seems like the best example of "The pot calling the kettle black." Anyway, here is that piece in it's entirety, with unstable statistics and tripe trend-following.

P.S. I decided to post this on "General Animation", because I was split between "Disney/Pixar" and "Warner Bros. Club"

Gotta go with what Autumn and Scarabim said (respectively) :

LOL Did Bugs scare them so BADLY that they felt the need to use him so MUCH?

I'll bet that packet was Eisner's idea.

But O_O. Just O_O.

Darn right Disney should have been scared -- there was financial effort poured into TT's debut that even dwarfed Disney, at the time the biggest spender. More cels, more backgrounds, and that orchestrated soundtrack killed the repetitive Rescue Rangers score easily.

There was room for both. TaleSpin and Tiny Toons were both successes in 1990 despire airing against each other in a lot of markets.

This is my favorite pair of CB comments. Totally destroys the logic of the entire pamphlet:

That is hilariously pathetic.

I guess they were trying to intimidate the affiliates, but it just comes off as "Please carry our shows. Please".

It's like I'm looking at a political campaign where one guy smears the other one. Too bad that makes me want to support the guy being slandered more than anything else.:p

To the publicity packet, I say WTH Disney?

To everyone else, I agree. And I bet that this is the reason that TMS and Wang distanced themselves from Disney.

Also, What is The Fun house anyways? Seeing as I wasn't around in 1989/1990 and all.

Corporate warfare is as dirty as politics. This packet and more recent stuff such as Disney's departure from the Annies might be related.
