Anti-war war films

Don't think it was a particularly anti-war movie, but it certainly had that effect on me.

I remember as a young child watching the movie Two Women, with Sophia Loren, I was profoundly affected and disturbed by it's depiction of war. I couldn't understand how people could do this to one another. I recall myself and my sisters discussing the possiblity of a similar war occurring, whilst in bed.
 
Because it's a weak, schmalzy film that relies solely on Hanks being idiotic in various differing situations, realistic and unrealistic, to get it's 'we can all succeed if we try' message over. It's the worst kind of 'Live the Dream' movie.

Won Best Film at the Oscars, ahead of The Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction y'know? That's what pandering to the nation will get you.

Saving private Ryan is a bit of a US flag waver,
to say the story is a British one, the Brits are never mentioned apart from when they slag them off.

I must admit threee kings does try to show the stupidity of the first gulf war and how we left the normal Iraqi's in the mess.
 
Castle Keep stars Burt Lancaster and Attack! stars Jack Palance who has a very close encounter with a tank's tracks. :eek:
 
I think we have all forgotten Oliver Stone's Born on the 4th of July, which points more at the Vietnam war and how badly their own contry treated the war vets. But askes the question that alot of people have been asking over the last couple of years since the so called super powers went and kicked a small countrys ass just because it could. And that question is, is it worth dieing for.

Im not anti war and if the course is right then so be it. But i think the film is tring to tell us no one want to die for a country that doesnt give a ****.
 
Surprised to see that no one has mentioned The Thin Red Line. Almost every second of it contains anti-war sentiments.

Maybe you've all overlooked it since it doesn't contain much actual conflict, eh action lovers?
 
Dr. Strangelove- not technically a war film but highlights the absurdities of war. "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here, this is the war room!"
