I heard of Lupin the 3rd since they used to air it on Adult Swim here. I think sometimes when it comes between original vs. dubbing, there are some cultural aspects that people in Japan would catch on as opposed to most of the western world (The whole Ash from Pokemon holding a sandwich in the English version as opposed to a riceball in the Japanese)

I know Fruits Basket and Lupin the 3rd are not as funny in Sub as they are in Dub.

Which anime is that (the one you don't like the sub)?

I haven't seen the original version of Inu Yasha but I've read in places that Kagome's voice is way more high pitched than the original. dubbed!

There are a few animes where I don't like the Sub but most of the time they are better.

Oh that makes me angry too. The orginal music is SO MUCH better. Take Ronin Warriors aka Yoroiden-Samurai Troopers for example... I love the original themes songs but the one the dubbed changed it to... I can't stand it.

Dubbing music does count.

You think the whole Puppetmon thing was bad? In the original Yu-Gi-Oh, there are several instances (Pegasus' guards, Bandit Keith) were holding out guns but 4Kids decided to edit it out so that they're just pointing.

Someone on the internet joked that it could possibly be invisible guns.

I can kinda..kinda understand if they had to replace the music that had Japanese lyrics if the show is directly aimed for the kid audience. But when removing the original musical score, that takes away the mood of the scene.

Does anyone remember when "La Soldier" was used in the series? I mean I know the song, just that I first heard it when Sera Myu (Sailor Moon Musical) was going on.

Does dubbing the music count for this?

because i was re-watching the first season of Digimon. I have the english dub on dvd and i decided to watched the sub just to see the differences. And the music was the first thing..a lot of the time, the japanese music would take the scene to a whole other level; adding so much more emotion to it

and it bugged me...the english dub....Puppetmon is holding a gun while he's chasing TK around but doesn't do anything with it(if you haven't seen the show, TK is like 7-8yr old then). In the japanese original, Puppetmon actually fires the gun at him several times

Also, replacing the original music and songs with American ones. Never a good thing.

Who cares if the lyrics are in Japanese, they friggin rock and help with the supsense of the scene!

'Power of Love' in Sailor Moon was dull and boring. But I thought the original song used, 'La Soldier', was epic!

My guess is if they are little kids, it'll probably make more sense than if they were teenagers. But I guess the way the two hold hands.

Gah, I can't find that video that did the side by side comparison of that episode. It used to be up on YouTube.

Although the only "comparison" video I found was of the R season

YouTube - Side-by-Side Comparison 1, Dub and Original Sailormoon.

I just told myself that they were only pretending to be cousins. It's pretty obvious that they weren't.

I can't think of many cousins who constantly hold hands like they do.

I actually had someone come up to be and say "they are not lesbians they are cousins."

I absolutely HATED that! I was so mad when I found out Sailor Moon was cut. Not to mention they removed eps because they felt it was pointless. Some of those eps were really good.

I was so happy when I got the subbed vers and realized just how much I missed out on. The showdown eps with Rubeus was also cut and they made Usagi out to be and annoying selfish bitch which is not how she is at all.

Overall the dubbing really made me mad. There are some shows I know I like better dubbed. Mainly because I get the jokes better however Sailor Moon was not one of them. The dub was crap it was not made for kids!

Decided to bump the thread.

Wikipedia does have a thorough article of anime editing when it goes through the U.S.

Editing of anime in American distribution - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And some more comparative pics between original and dubbing.

I actually laughed when I found out Haruka and Michiru are made in to cousins in the dubbed version. I know that the company thinks depicting them in their original lesbian relationship would be a disturbing issue that little kids can't grasp. But making them in to cousins just made it all the more disturbing. :rotfl:
