Another Radiator Thread

I have a white 848 and was wondering if hot coolant can stain or ruin the finish off my panel since I had the notorious radiator failure that most of you had. Reason I ask is because I'm thinking of requesting Ducati to replace my left mid panel under warranty since coolant got on it.

If you can see the damage then yes, otherwise don't worry about it. I had coolant spray on mine too from the radiator but it just wiped off. When my 10R got destroyed in the accident, hot antifreeze got poured and left on the fairing, damaging an otherwise pristine piece of plastic. (one the few left on it then) But a little spray you were experiencing wont do anything if wiped off.

Is the paint on your bike actually damaged?
If it isn't, then they aren't going to replace your panel.

Even if the coolant got on the panel on the inside, there's a sound deadening material that the coolant most likely is going to hit directly.

Not to mention, that no one can see the inside of your panel when you are riding your bike. If the coolant was hitting the outside of the panel, then something is really wrong.

Unless the coolant was boiling hot, and was coming in contact with the panel in such a way to actually warp, you don't really have any reason to request a new panel.

Coolant isn't corrosive to plastic.

BC.
