another question about a 1992 dodge dakota?

my gauge isnt working properly and someone told me that i could try to install a different one. does that mean that i should use a different gauge but from the same make and year or can i use any other kind of gauge from any year? basically, my question is do i have to use a gauge from 1992 again?
oh, and do they still make the fuel/gas gauge for that year model?
