1995 Pontiac Grand Prix. wont start when selector is in P only N. car will roll in P, rolls hard but moves. LOUD grinding noise in every gear when running but not when selector is in R. tires move little when selector is in 1. not looking forward to replacing trans. wondering if anyone knows anything about Pontiac's and can help me..maybe bad linkage or something inside borken. anything can help. thanks
a trans from any GM 3.1 or similar should work...ie Skylark, Lumina, Regal, Monte Carlo, Cutlass.

my sister just sold hers as the transmission was bad..she sold it to an mechanic..

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds like you have a blown transmission.

The good news is that GM used the 4T60E transmission in many of its front wheel drive cars for several years.

You should be able to pick up a used one from a salvage yard for a few hundred dollars.

Replacing it is kind of a pain, but can be done in your garage if you are very mechanically inclined.

Otherwise, see what a local independent mechanic might charge for the job.

Sorry but I hate to break the bad news to you, inside the transmission theres a part called a parking pall, what this part does is when u put the shifter in park the parking pall locks up the shaft inside the tranny, to access the parking pall the tranny has to come out of the car, theres no other easy fix for your cars problems, the noise you hear is more an likely chunks of that parking pall tearing up the rest of the parts inside the tranny.
