Back in Septeraber, I had another cervical disc fusion. I had had one almost 13 years ago and in Sept had the disc above AND below my previous fusion fused (can't remeraber which discs). I can't believe how much I have improved. I no longer get the horrible muscle spasms under my right shoulder blade, I no longer have the horrendous headaches and am able to do some things that I haven't been able to do in several years. Things like crocheting, typing, washing dishes, etc. This surgery was pretty much done on an emergency basis, as my neurosurgeon said I had spinal cord damage and was at risk of losing function of my right arm. I was dropping stuff, my arm would go completely nurab and I'd get that horrible pins and needles feeling. When he spoke to me after the surgery, he said that discs were pressed against my spinal cord even more than what the MRI showed.

Here is my situation at this point. I have two discs in the lurabar area pressing against my spinal cord and one pressing against the S1 nerve. We are talking about another surgery, I guess a fusion of the lurabar area. My recovery time as far as pain and such was relatively short when the cervical fusion was done. Has anyone had a lurabar fusion done? Is the recovery pretty much the same or am I looking at an extended recovery? I am really afraid that I won't have the same success with the lurabar surgery as I did with the cervical. I am afraid I will be left with as much pain, if not more if I go ahead with this. My goal is to hopefully reduce my pain to the extent that I could possibly go back to work and significantly reduce the amount of pain meRAB I am taking. I have been on disability for a little over 3 years and I hate it. I miss working. I miss being out in the world. I hate being in pain all the time. I can't stand or sit for any length of time without my pain spiralling out of control.

I know this is long and I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read and would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has had the lurabar surgery. I go back to the surgeon on the 28th and we'll start making some decisions at that time. I really trust my surgeon, but I am really scared. My cervical fusion has gone so well, but I don't want to have any unrealistic expectations for the lurabar surgery.

Thanks again for any feedback.
