Imagine there is a giant air hocket table, several miles across. Because there is a layer of air everywhere, there is no friction.
Now two fans are placed on the disc. If the right fan turns on, the disc will be pushed to the left. If the left fan is on, it will be pushed to the right.
a) If the disc is at rest to begin with and the right fan comes on, what happens to the disc?
b) If the disc is moving 2 m/s to the left and the right fan comes on, what will happen to the disc?
