Another Exhaust Question

I picked up my 2011 Ultra Limited this moring. I've been reading up on all of the exhuast options and right side heat issues for the past couple of weeks. I know getting rid of the cat and the stock mufflers is will allow it to breathe better and I plan on doing it a little later on. But for now, I was wondering to help with the heat from the cat on the right side has anyone tried removing the heat shields and wrapping the head pipe and cat area with header wrap and then re-installing the heat shields? Or is the room between the pipe and heat shields for this?

second day with my 2011 limited, love it.
it is a little warmer on the right side of my leg,so i put my foot on the hihgway peg, works for me.
i also put jackpots new slip-on on.

I have a 2009 ultra classic, I put on a k&n air filter, powermaster slip-on's with 2" baffels and a V&H fuel-pak, setup the fuel-pak as instructed by the floks at V&H,,the bike runs great,,sounds good too,,now all I have to do is just ride,,

I understand that making any of the above changes will help, and I plan on making them a little later on when I decide what I want to put on mine. But for now I was wondering about wrapping them to help with the heat short term. Anybody???

Never tried heat wrap, but you'll want ample space between pipe & outer shield. Adding a layer of wrap will probably make it too thick to function properly. Also, if you wrap the pipe, the shields shouldn't be needed - right? The wrap is designed for use instead of heat shield(s). Might be worth a try, but why not start saving this cash for your replacement exhaust & go that route. You'll want to keep the old header/pipes in case they're needed later. Good luck!
