Another BEV price increase?

Awesome! Thanks for the link.

I wish BEV would do these sort of things more often to reward their existing customers. I have been with them over 5 years now. A little "thank you" of some sort every now and then would be appreciated for my business. Maybe a $50 credit towards a new receiver, or a couple of months free on my 9200 rental. Just something to acknowledge that they appreciate my business. I am in sales and I call my existing clients from time to time to see how they are doing and thank them for their business. A little good will goes a long way.

I'm speculating that the new fees will be used to give top management bigger bonuses and to give the new owners bigger profits and dividends. Customers may see some benefit when N4/N5 are launched and MPEG4 is implemented. But by then they will introduce new fees to cover the new services.

I called Bell today about the new $3 fee. They said everyone is getting hit with this, regardless of plans or contracts.

I don't have a contract and verified it with their disconnections department, so I am free to shop around for a new service.

Bell gave me a 40% loyalty discount for 12 months to keep me as a customer. No contract to commit to even with the discount.

I verified it over and over again, my bill is going down from 108 to 65 for the next twelve months.

Now that will keep me happy until the rebate ends.

When I called to cancel my service the retention agent I spoke with said that all packages and all customers will have the increase - no exceptions.

Star Choice says they offer you warranty on your receivers with the multi-receiver fee (MRF) but its only in certain situations. It doesn't cover an "act of God" or an electricity spike. After a storm, both of my parents Star Choice receivers got fried for some reason. Star Choice refused to replace them under the warranty saying it was due to the weather and its not covered. Both myself and my parents left Star Choice soon after. This was about 4 years ago and I had enough of their price increases at the time and the lies over the MRF.

Called BEV on monday, the csr at first wanted to give me 3$ per month for a year, told him no, then it was 20% a month for a year told him no again, then he told me i will give you the max that i'm allowed, and it was 40% off per month for a year and i said yes.

that is what channel RDS is on with Rogers where i live (i don't know if the mapping is different depending on where you live).

they will do what they did last year...use the fees to brag about increased ARPU in the financial reports.

Please please please tell me tongue was firmly in cheek when you typed this! If this is what you believe, I'm sorry to say you are very sadly misguided. :)

BEV is going downhill fast and they've already had one price increase since I joined last January.

I can't say I'm surprised by this price increase. Besides Walmart, I don't remember anyone else offering price reductions...

Boy has BEV changed over the years. When I first got on board it was a breath of fresh air with its superior PQ due to full 100% digital channels. less expensive pricing, and vacation policy where you could suspend your service. Fast forward to the present and BEV offers no cost benefits compared to the competition and much of their HD experience seems to have deteriorated in the past year.

Hopefully MPEG4 will help "fix" the HD issues I have been experiencing with artifacts etc one day. One thing is for sure, BEV is no bargain anymore...:(

I just got 30% discount off my monthly bill also without any new contracts. I also got another 20% off my Sympatico, with the higher end service as well. Not bad!

It's a little over-the-top for Bell ExpressVu to claim it is the last digital TV provider to have a "service fee".

Until summer 2004, all Bell ExpressVu subscribers paid a $2.99 "Service Charge". Those on older packages now pay $5.99, since the increase last April.

In fall 2004, Bell ExpressVu decided to launch a new campaign, "making it simple", so that everyone who used to pay $21.99 and a $2.99 "service charge" could pay $25 instead of $24.98. Simpler, yes. But the "service charge" was just embedded in the monthly fee.

Now, in 2007, the cheapest Bell ExpressVu package is $32. In six weeks it will be $35. By my math, $25 to $35 is a 40% increase in three years. And you still have to buy or rent hardware on top of that.

Gawd bless capitalism, of course. Who doesn't want to line the pockets of the new American owners and Ontario Teachers?

But now that Bell ExpressVu Digital Standard will sell for $38/mth effective January 1st, it does lay claim to a new Canadian First: the most expensive TV service provider in Canada.

interesting...bell used to be able to retain business with excellent customer service, cutting edge offers and being leaders in the market...now all they can do is give 30%-40% discounts to retain business...makes you wonder how much worse their numbers would have been had they not been giving away the farm all year.

That is Starchoice! If you don't like *choice, then go to 4dtv. It's Big & ugly. No one is forcing you to stay with Ma Bell. ;) :D

Well Zoo, when I bought my 9200 in October I got a 50$ credit, in addition to the special price of 399$ I got at Best Buy

Nobody told me I would get that discount, just saw it on my bill...

It looks like all sub's will have to pay this 3$ digital service fee.

What the hell does this even mean:confused:

It means "we will tell you that you are paying for and getting a full HD signal but in reality it will be much less because our equipment can't handle everything but telling you that would hurt our bottom line".

It's marketing speak. :D

If they are like Videotron, I was told they just take them off the market. I "traded" 2 receivers + $100 to get a SA8300HD and 2 regular units (Explorer 2400, I think )

I was told any receiver was fine and it did not matter if it functioned, so I went back to 2 of my old 2700 receivers that I used to use to ...cough...test Dish and gave those serial numbers.

In the end when the tech came, he did not even want the BEV receivers :p
