Annie Award Winners 2007

Eartha Kitt is a freaking Hypnotoad. Then again, the other nominees weren't much competition either.

And El Tigre won "Best Animated Television Production for Children"? Nick is gonna kick themselves for cancelling it.

Yeah,I was expecting that Altantis Squarepantis movie thing to be in there somewhere.Or maybe Avatar at least win a few awards.I think El Tigre may be one of those underestimated shows.

There was a good mix in terms of awards winners this year, although obviously Ratatouille was the big winner. I'm pleased El Tigre got some recognition. Although shows that have won awards have been cancelled before, it would be nice to see this one come back.

Eartha Kitt has a very distinctive voice that is a perfect fit for her TV roles, so I think she does deserve that award.

And just to finish, Jerry Beck got the June Foray award. He deserves it for the books he's put out in the last year alone, but of course he's involved in a lot of other projects as well.

PS Apparently the ceremony itself was a riot, led be mischiefmaker-in-chief Tom Kenny

While I realize Avatar can't win all the time (it did well last year), I'm still shocked that it barely made the list, in the form of the mediocre video game. It should at least have had some nominations, if not awards.

Good to see that Ratatouille won a lot, though.

Once again, the Pixar film sweeps the awards, the television awards focus exclusively on comedy productions, and the entire anime world is completely swept under the carpet.

Same old same old.

I don't think much of these awards. They seem to be very heavily slanted toward productions that have large distribution networks or advertising budgets at the expense of more modest releases and television programs that may be slipping under the radar. This is why Family Guy, The Emperor's New School and Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends get nominations every years while shows like Avatar and JLU are virtually invisible. This suggests to me that the voting membership isn't putting a lot of effort to seeking out the lesser well-known nominees, and this casts doubt on the veracity of the awards. If a category has five nominees, and a voter has only seen two of them, can the vote really be called fair?

Why should anime even be nominated for Annies in the first place? It's not like any of it is even made in this country in the first place.:confused:

The Annie Awards are supposed to recognize all forms of animation, not just U.S. productions.

I believe the last time an anime was nominated was in 2005 (Howl's Moving Castle).

I do remember Spirited Away winning numerous Annies when it was nominated (though that was probably largely due to John Lassiter's involvement in the dub, and the animation industry continues to have a lust affair with anything PIXAR touches and hates everything not made by them). I believe Howl's Moving Castle was also nominated.

Also, Creature Comforts America was a British-made series and it won this year.

Results were pretty obvious I guess, except for El Tigre winning Best Show. I just don't see how it could've won. It's not that good of a show. I mean, it is good, but not necessarily deserving of an award...you know what I mean? I'm bad at explaining stuff like this.
