[ANN]4Kids TV Gets Axed in December Claims ANN

There hasn't been a good Saturday morning cartoon since Digimon ended.

Ah well, I didn't watch 4KidsTV/FOXBox, but it stinks for those of you that did. I feel for you guys.

That's true about the programs on 4KidsTV. Nearly all of it was repeats of shows that ended years ago and they're either available on DVD and/or on the 4Kids' website. So some kids could still watch these shows if they wanted to. I actually forgot that Kids' WB ended earlier this year. While it is sad to see three blocks ending all in the same year, two of them, those being Toonami and Kids' WB, had a pretty long time on the air to begin with. At least more than 4KidsTV.

Do you mean that the Fox Box/4KidsTV block hasn't been good since they stopped airing Digimon? I could understand that more than there hasn't been any good Saturday morning cartoons since that time since I have seen some good recent cartoons on Saturday morning.

I find it more of a shame that FOX won't have another Saturday morning block right now. I would completely love a FUNimation block, though I'm not sure how that would work for Saturday mornings, but that doesn't seem to be happening here. They'll just use the extra time to air cheaper things like infomercials and reruns of sitcoms. Oh well.

As I mentioned in the 4Kids thread, I am kind of surprised that they cut off the 4KidsTV block this soon. I knew that they would, but I thought that it would be around spring or summer of next year. Though, I guess that they didn't want to pay anymore money for a block that had almost nothing but repeats, especially when there are other ways for kids to see the episodes, mainly DVDs and their website, which would make sense.

Not surprised this happened. Now we can watch all the news and infomercials as much as we want, although I don't find the regular network newscasts very appealing or informative. Give it till the next decade that the CW will axe 4Kids TV because of lack of interest, more FCC regulations, or it won't be worth the investment anymore. As far as I'm concerned, 1992 was the first sign of this death that seemed inevitable, starting with NBC. Showing reruns from Disney Channel and Qubi aren't very appealing at all. But that's OK, the next generation has cable to take its place. I'm glad (as a thirty something) I saw the good and the bad of this wonderful time every Saturdays during childhood. Long live Saturday Morning Television. Thank you for such fantastic memories.:crying:

A little both. There hasn't been a good Saturday Morning Cartoon (the genre of cartoons) since Digimon, nor, IMO, has FOXBox/4KidsTV played anything good since then, but it was on FOX Kids anyways. :P

@Doyng; I have similar Saturday morning cartoon memories with FOX Kids, 1 Saturday Morning, and Toonami Rising Sun/Super Saturdays (if that counts, but I doubt it XD). This year certainly is the end of an era for good television.

You know what would actually make sense? Viz

Air a bunch of Toonami Jetstream shows, and of course the centerpiece, HAMTARO!!!

But seriously, Viz has enough "kid friendly" programing to air SatAM. Probably Viz will only think about this seriously if CN doesn't pick up Naruto..

While I liked it, I'm not too upset over Sonic X no longer being on TV, since it's on DVD as well (though it'll be sad that television will once again be Sonic-less, possibly for a very long period of time)...

But what I WILL be sad about with this loss is the farewell of Kirby, since I know these episodes may never be released on DVD. Only the first 12 episodes and the last 5 episodes are out, and while it's nice that 4Kids has recently been releasing new volumes of the series, these new volumes only come out once every six months with only four episodes on each. Thus, we'll likely only get two or three more volumes before 4Kids permanently loses the license, leaving nearly 3/4ths of the series never to be seen again.

Though, what upsets me the most is that this is the loss of a block we all came to know, love, and loathe. It gave us great shows such as TMNT 2K3 and Viva Pinata, revived Sonic X and Ultimate Muscle from their Japanese cancellations, showed us just how wrong dubs can go with One Piece and Mew Mew Power, but still managed to give us good dubs with Shaman King and Kirby. It was a block that began as Fox Box, replacing Fox Kids, and marks the end of a tradition that spanned nearly two full decades...

It's a bit sad that I feel more sentimental over the loss of Fox Saturday mornings than I did over Toonami, but really...

They probably won't replace it with simply infomercials, since they still have the E/I quota they have to fill by law.

Now we just have to find out the exact date 4KidsTV will end.

They'd have to hack those shows to ribbons to air them on terrestial Saturday mornings. I'd rather they not do that but that line-up in the Saturday PM would be marvelous.

I don't think Winx Club fans should be that worried about the fourth season. The show is easily the most discussed series on the 4Kids forums, with 43,879 threads and 878,464 posts. And the show is holding up well enough in reruns on 4Kids TV, so the series obviously still has some life in it.

Come to think of it, it'd be a pretty cool parting gift if 4Kids TV aired the theatrical Winx Club movie on its final broadcast. Who knows if it's ready to air, though.

Plus Winx Club is E/I. GoGoRiki is 4Kids' only E/I show that they own on the block right now, and they need two slots for it. Plus Winx Club pulls in actually decent ratings, somewhat of a rarity among E/I programs.

I don't know, I wouldn't be surprised to see Season 4 turn up on the CW4Kids in Fall 2009.

They might replace Wil and Dewit with Winx for E/I in January. I wouldn't be surprised. Once again it's a "new to CW" show that they could promote as such.

Yeah, I can definitely see that happening. It'd be a nice way to get new viewers into the show before the fourth season. Of course, they'd probably skip around the episodes and such, but eh.

Hey if Dic is getting its revived as a digital Sub-channel maybe 4kids will work out a deal with TheCw to get its own 24 hour channel I mean if qubo exists anything can happen:) .... well you can dream right:(

This kinda reminds me of that short-lived channel that 4Kids had in the UK (which was where the unaired F-Zero and Mew Mew Power episodes aired)...

But I don't see it happening...It's not a matter of if they have enough material, they have enough to last nearly nine whole days without a repeat, but a matter of if they have enough money. Unlike DiC and Funimation, 4Kids (AFAIK) isn't owned by a parent company, they literally have to fund everything out of their own pockets. They most likely only have enough to run things as they have been, thus they wouldn't be able to afford an entire subchannel.

But yeah, it would give a lot of their shows a chance to finally get regular daily runs (there's still plenty of Kirby and the Yu-Gi-Oh series that I haven't seen, nor has 4Kids uploaded onto their player).

True, but 4KidsTV did also air almost the whole third season of GX until the summer. Of course, it did end Japan during that time too so I don't know if that counts.

I wouldn't be worried about Winx Club either. The reason why it did come back to the 4KidsTV block in the first place was because it was one of the most downloaded series on their website. Besides, the CW4Kids does need another E/I show and Winx Club does pretty well in ratings too. In all honesty, I'm more worried about the fourth season of GX, assuming that they are eventually going to dub it. I've heard that they're going to after the first season of 5D's, but I haven't heard anything official about it. So I'm just taking that as a hopeful grain of salt.

I wouldn't mind seeing that myself. That would be a pretty good way to end the block with a movie of one of their popular shows. Too bad we haven't heard if they're dubbing that already, though I'm sure that that the chances are pretty good that they will eventually.

Hey um, I know this is a lil' bit off-topic, but does 4Kids have any plans at all to finish Season 3 (there's only 1 episode left of Season 3 for them to dub, episode 156) and dub the last season (Season 4, episodes 157-180)?

That's a good question. Sure wish I knew the answer myself since I would love to the see the conclusion in English. While I haven't heard anything official, I have read some emails from 4Kids saying that they're focusing their energy on 5Ds at the moment and that new GX wouldn't be on for this season. They didn't say that 4Kids won't be dubbing the rest of GX, they were just saying that it isn't on the near future schedule. It could go either way, but I'm just hoping that they'll eventually dub the rest of GX in the future.

Well as long as they finish dubbing it, that is all that matters to me really.

I don't care how long it takes, but at the same time I do wish that they hurry up so the new episodes will air next summer at the very least, or earlier.

You know, I actually joked around with ChibiGoku earlier about Viz getting the timeslot, right down to the Hamtaro airings.

Here would be my fantasy schedule for Viz Kids:

8.0 - Hamtaro
8.5 - Doraemon (yes, I know, it's still not dubbed, but this would give them a perfect shot at trying to finally get it out there)
9.0 - Mega Man NT Warrior
9.5 - Mega Man Star Force
10.0 - Zatch Bell
10.5 - Blue Dragon
11.0 - MAR
11.5 - Prince of Tennis

Naruto wouldn't go on this because I simply can't figure out how they'd be able to edit it down to acceptable Saturday morning standards (ESPECIALLY Shippuden). The main problem with this fantasy schedule is that CN still has the airing rights to the entire second half of the block, but they're probably willing to give those up.
