Animes you would like remade in the west

A little soon, but I'd like to see Tales from Earthsea remade by the director of Watership Down and The Plague Dogs. He actually offered to adapt the books, but Ursula le Guin was still in anti-animation mode at the time.
 
The only anime that I think would turn out okay would be ones that are very old. Gatachaman and Gigantor could probably work and I'm still waiting for that remake of Voltron that was suppose to be out years ago. Astroboy would probably turn out alright.

But anything relatively modern would probably turn out awful.

Such as Gryph's suggestion to redo One Piece sends shivers up my spine. (and the show isn't even over yet so there's no point in remaking it).

Keep to Japan what is Japan's and keep to America what is America's.
 
Dragonball and Dragonball Z are the first that come to mind. They fit the American comic book hero theme better than any other anime I've seen, and would transfer perfectly to american animation. Plus, all the filler could be cut out (except the good stuff, like Bardok).


Also, I wouldn't mind seing an American take on a Pokemon story that was closer to the manga. Then again, I also wouldn't mind seeing a Pokemon anime that simply followed the manga.
 
Filler?. Do you mean all the padding that dragged out episodes, or the movie-villains who weren't from the original comic? 'Cause I'd love to see an Americanized DBZ without all the five-minute powerups and episodes that covered only a single plot point. But I'd also love to see all those extra plotlines woven into the main story. Especially if they went the Super-team route, and made someone other than Goku the primary hero for those other plotlines. (Like how Justice League or X-Men would have episodes feature only part of the team fighting, and thus, having their moment of glory when they won) Imagine: a whole arc centered around Piccolo. Or an episode where Yamcha can acutally be relevent. It'd be totally worth it...
 
Hence why I said "Except for the good stuff, like Bardok". That would include all good filler, including stuff like the Z-fighters attacking Cell during the beam struggle with Gohan, future Trunks going SSj because of Gohan's death, and the better movie stuff. And the driving episode.
 
Can't think of any. Too many really really bad 80's Marvel Comic versions of anime series (The Marvel version of Robotech is utterly horrific) come to mind.
 
I think it's possible for something like CCSakura to be remade for a US audience once we start getting more visible gay characters in toons. It's pretty close to how I picture the assimilated toon world looking- pure genre stuff and some fresh twists on the romance end.
