Anime you wished had another chance?

So basically was there an anime that got canned that you really enjoyed but just stopped and/or was treated horribly?

I guess I will go and say Rave Master for sure, I only read the first two volumes but comparing that too the anime, the changes were just way too big. The art style was not exactly faithful either and they changed a whole lot for just two volume worth. Really if they remade the series and followed the entire manga the right way, I think the series would end up liked so much more.

It's bad enough the dub makes it even worse.

Narutaru & Bokurano

Naru danced around way too much, skipping material that came into play later on. It also ended on the most random spot ever!
It enRAB when Shiina turns around to see her dad on her new bike! Although, you don't see her dad.. you just see her hear "Shiina" and turn around

Boku also changed way too much, toning down events and rewriting character stories. Their version of the end of Wako's story was pathetic.

EDIT: Forgot Kare Kano. >

I still wish that Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo hadn't been pulled from Japanese airwaves so they could've adapted more of the manga...

You know, at least up until the time-skip.

Rurouni Kenshin.
They had a bunch of filler 'cause the new manga arc wasn't out yet.
And right before it finally came out, the show got canceled.
At least, I think that's how it happened...

I would like a redo of Code Geass R2 to be what it should have been. There is no reset, no more Ashford stupidity, no unnecessary plotlines, and NO FLIPPING ROLO! R2 could have blown Season 1 out of the water if it had decent pacing, less balant fan pandering, and secondary characters that mattered.

Kare Kano totally
Soul Eater should get the FMA:B treatment eventually
And the fact that a Rurouni Kenshin remake is not in the works makes me sad.

Obviously more Ultimate Muscle for me. I'm glad that 4KiRAB commissioned 26 new episodes, but there were so many more things that happened after the Chojin Olympics ended.

Yup yup yup, definitely. I'd LOVE to see a new Rurouni Kenshin anime - the story itself is gold, but the original anime is bogged down by filler, both in the first arc and the last chunk, not to mention the complete lack of the last, and from what I've heard best, arc. A remake, now that the manga's been done for years, would be much tighter and much better overall.

Gundam X.

And Aura Battler Dunbine done again, except with stuff actually happening during the second half so that we can have a real ending instead of a rush-job done solely for shock value.

Speaking of remakes, Nadia is one series that could benefit from revamp (although I know that it's unlikely to happen since NHK holRAB the rights, not Gainax). Even so, it is interesting to note that during the production period of the Nadia movie, Hideaki Anno has stated that he would have made it as a retelling of the series, albeit streamlined and replaced the much-maligned island/Africa filler arc with something better. Unfortunately, NHK wanted to tell a new story, so what resulted was a bitter disagreement that ended up as a 30% recapped footage, and 60% badly animated, unremarkable, forgettable, cartoonish boredom.

Another noteworthy fact: there's a compilated version of Nadia that was made sometime after the series ended called "The Nautilus Story". Anno made this version close to what he initially had in mind for the show. This focuses on the conflict between Nemo and Gargoyle and does away with the filler, with narration from Noriko Hidaka (Jean) filling in the gaps. It would be fascinating to see this version, but it didn't make it to DVD in Japan; only getting about as far as a LD release.

Even so, it would be nice to see Nadia revamped as a series of movies in the way that Evangelion is, but I can only dream.

Lodoss is another series that I feel could use a revamp. Don't get me wrong, the OVA series is absolutely fantasic and the TV series, although weaker and sometimes confusing, is enjoyable too, but there's an obvious amount of material issing from both that I wouldn't mind seeing translated to the screen, as I felt there were some unresolved plot points that could have used a bit more fleshing out:
whatever happens to Woodchuck?

Bobobo could've gone on forever, seriously.

And I think the dubbed Duel Masters was great, personally. It had plenty of legs to it.

And finally, Ergo Proxy got the raw deal of being on an awful network.

Gundam SEED Destiny - So it could retcon all the crap it pulled throughout the series run. But then again it had the chance to... TWICE, so I don't believe a third time would change anything. But I would love the series to redeem itself from the stuff they pulled.

Kenshiiiiiiiiin........

I want that arc animated for the series. The newer style used in the manga before the series finished would be nice to see on screen, and if they want to use that style on the earlier episodes like what they've done to the new Fullmetal Alchemist would be appreciated. Just straight manga adaptation form beginning to end. No fillers.

It wouldn't kill them do finish off Big O right, that's for sure.

I also agree about the Kenshin. Good job, everyone, for bringing that up.

I always felt that Fate/Stay Night and Witch Hunter Robin could have been so much better if they were under the right production teams.
Robin was a snooze feast when it didn't have to be, and Fate/Stay was sub-par handling of potentially great anime material.
(Some of you may disagree with me on the Fate/Stay point, but this is what I think.)

And finally, could we go back in time and have the Endless Eight never happen to Haruhi Suzumiya? (Or at least 5 episodes of it.)
What a waste.

I'm sure there are others, but I can't think right now.

If only they kept Plastic Cow and stayed with the Gag Dub style, the show would have last longer. But noooo, they had to change it so much that the charm of first season was lost.

While I am against remakes in general (seriously, are people so creatively bankrupt they have to recycle new stuff?), there are a few shows that I wish they did redo.

Chrono Crusade: Thanks Gonzo for mucking up the ending. They did a great job at the begining, but it just became nonsenical at the end.

Rave Master: Megaman X basically pointed out the flaws. The anime should have stuck to the Manga closer, and it would have lasted longer.

Although, for the dub, it just so bad its hillarious.

Dude, Fate was awesome. It had an excellent finale, it incorporated plot elements from all three story paths from the original visual novel, and the action was well above par. Also, one could argue that it's getting a second chance with the Unlimited Blade Works movie, although that's more like a fresh retelling than a do-over.

I fully understand your sentiments.

But I was bored during a lot of it, and I felt the ending to be a bit cheesy.
(The bit about Saber and Shiro; not the whole King Arthera going to sleep thing.)

You can say that perhaps the problem is I saw too much potential in it, but I say it should have been much better than it was.

And yes, I do know about Unlimited Blade Works.
Hopefully I'll get my Fate/Stay fix out of that one.

P.S. Moreover, I was bothered by some of the really bad situations imagined to get Shiro/Rin/Saber to make out with each other.
I know it's anime, but I've seen porns with better setup than that.

P.P.S. Also, that whole "Loli Ilya on a crucifix" thing disturbed me too... come on Japan. Seriously.

I'm going to be a little flexible and list several series that don't necessarily meet all the listed requirements, strictly speaking, but at least let me explain why. It's also true that I don't dislike nor hate everything I'm going to list, even in its current form.

Full Metal Panic - I'd say it's about time we saw a real continuation of this series. Too bad Kyoto Animation has other priorities and there's no indication that they will come back to this franchise anytime soon, which leaRAB to its (hopefully temporary) inclusion.

Mobile Suit Gundam F91 - I don't hate the movie, but it really suffered from a bad case of plot compression and should have remained a TV series. Of course, it's probably far too late for something this old to be remade.

Gundam X - The last few episodes managed to conclude the story in a reasonable manner, thankfully, but they were still rushed and less than ideal in the grand scheme of things due to its unfortunate cancellation.

Blue Comet SPT Layzner - The original broadcast ended before its time and a short OVA series tried to salvage the finale, more or less succeeding, but that still meant losing about a dozen episodes of potential development.

Giant Robo OVA - There's nothing particularly wrong with the story as it is, but the potential for sequels and prequels is so large that it's a real pity to see the project suddenly end when and where it did.

Tekkaman Blade: Missing Link - This was a really weird production, reduced to simply being a trailer for what could have been an actual OVA linking the original series and its sequel. Maybe it wouldn't be that great either, but I've always wondered about it.

Code Geass R2 - I'm actually fairly satisfied with the result, saying otherwise would make me a hypocrite in my own eyes, but I agree with the sentiment that this series should have been better handled in a nuraber of respects. A remake or even an alternative retelling wouldn't be a bad idea and isn't that unreasonable in the near-future.

Tsukihime - I'm not one of those who refuse to accept that this anime ever existed, but I can definitely see why we could use another version of the story, because some of the most interesting aspects of the original game were not included. I haven't even seen F/SN yet, but now that Type-Moon movies are all the rage....who knows? It could happen.

Phoenix - I love the 2004 anime adaptation, but it's a minor tragedy that Osamu Tezuka himself was never able to finish the original manga before his death. I know that the nature of the story makes this less of a problem than it would be in many other cases, but still....a man can always dream, can't he?

Claymore - Who knows when the manga will actually end, that's for readers to find out, but I really think the anime ended in a rather anti-climatic manner and coming up with an entirely original ending wasn't worth it.

Irresponsible Captain Tylor OVA - The TV series had a good ending, but this one stopped rather abruptly and leaving the latest conflict unresolved. Another entry that's mostly made up of wishful thinking.
