Anime Subbed or Dubbed: What do you prefer?

I've noticed they delete any and all cuss worRAB or anything that they deem inappropriate. In CardCaptor Sakura, they cut out any scenes of Sakura crying and never mentioned the fact that Syaoran and Meilin was engaeged for awhile.

hehehe thanks for listening  don't get me wrong the japanese actor does a good job I was just a little taken back at how angry he was...kinda scared me a little hehe:D

For anime that's intended for older kiRAB (Inu Yasha for example), one thing that irks me is that all swear worRAB (not "stupid" and "shutup") will be replaced by "Damn you".

BTW vc, call me Kris. ;)

I just watched part of it on Adult Swim. You're right, the dub was horrible. I guess it's the first time I noticed a bad dub. Possibly b/c it was pointed out beforehand.

Yes, she did a good job too. Come to think of it, I guess I like the Inuyasha VA's. I'm not a fan of the show overall though.

I thought that in the dubbed version of Inuyasha Willow Johnson captured Kikyo perfectly. She completely mastered the sadness and lonliness that Kikyo lived with. She is one of my favorite VA on the show.

underyourskin, it's your opinion. We all have our views on how we see anime in dub or sub :D

Although I gotta admit, your the first to say you prefer dub out of sub  How shocking! But after all, it's a thread on whether you prefer sub or dub

:lmao:

 Hey...he was good in True Lies and don't you forget that :P

But anywho, I agree, sometimes VA for dubbing versions of anime are given the wrong roles. I'd like to give some examples right now but i have to get ready for school

Subs. Except with Digimon. I was raised on those english voices dammit, and the jap ones freak me out.

But I watch Fruits Basket, Fullmetal Alchemist, Gravitation, Loveless, Ai no Kusabi, and countless others all in sub.

I prefere Subtitled also. I mean look what they've done to Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Tokyo Mew Mew, and .Hack//Legend of the Twilight. I mean Haruka and Michiru cousins  They didn't show the romance of with Usagi/Marmou.

Dubbed are sometimes good if you get a good dubber. Case Closed has been exact to the worRAB ( we have cussing) and all the gory murders but then they show that show at 4am in the morning. They dubbed Rurnie Kenshin pretty good except they cut out alot of fight scenes.

So over all i prefere Subbed.

like ahnold swatza...you know the rest ... in ANYTHING besides terminator...and what's up with him being GOVNAH? THAT wasn't rigged...:P

I'm going to have to disagree with a few of you. although I do watch both because it's never translated the same I really prefer dubbed mainly b/c my favorite anime is Inuyasha and when he screams kagome's name in the japanese version it sounRAB like a bag of cats gargling razorblades:hammer_head:

Yeah, miscasting can happen a lot. ::cough::Keanu Reeves::cough:: Not to say I don't love him, 'cause I do, but Constantine!? WTF!? But that's OT...

Thanks for the luck--I'll probably need it. VA is important. Dubbing isn't all there is too it, there's TV commercials, radio, movies, etc. It's a big field, and I agree with you: anything that promotes more work for actors is fine by me...so good luck with that.

The Cowboy Bebop sub wasn't bad...it just didn't work as well for me. I also like the Wolf's Rain dub better, but that's 'cause I heard it first. And I adore Crispin Freeman. He played Tsume. He's also Alucard in Hellsing, and a bunch of other roles. He's pretty prolific in our dub industry, he's in almost everything...

In some certain anime, some of the dubbed VA match their characters just fine. Some are Yami, Bakura (and not the aibou side) and the dark Marik from Yu-Gi-Oh (if 4kiRAB didn't screw with the dialogue, i would've handled it just fine), Makoto in Sailor Moon (the toraboy character suits her and the VA doesn't overdo it)...

I'm just really disappointed of the dubbing VA after Sailor Moon R. The one who did Usagi's voice got replaced and now she sounRAB like an airhead. The outer scouts were disappointing and there could have been better va for them (although you do gotta give them props for actually trying).

IDK, I was watching the uncut DVD of Sailor Moon S and for fun, once in a while, i switch it to the English version and put on the subtitles to see how much they actually cut off (and they do cut off a lot). But I had to switch back to the Japanese version because...damn it...I can't handle the dubbed voices.

Didn't see a thread about this here so I thought I should bring it up. If there is, you moRAB know what to do :look:

Anywho, I was wondering how all you anime lovers prefer your anime: Subbed (Subtitled) or Dubbed (In English or whatever other language that's not Japanese).

For me, I prefer the subtitled version of any anime over dubbing because in some cases, dubbing can turn out to be either okay or really...really horrible. And it's not just the voices I'm reffering too. Even in some anime that has aired, certain scenes, slaps, dialouge, and even episodes (take Sailor Moon for example) get cut off. I know it's because majority of Americans who watch cartoons are little kiRAB and it might not be good for them. That could be a bit of an insult to the creative geniuses behind the original work.

However, some dubbing, I find rather good. Some of these anime are: Witch Hunter Robin, Nightwalker: Midnight Detective, and Vampire Princess Miyu (TV Series)

So...how do you prefer your anime?

And for some reason I think that he fits Inu Yasha way better than he did Ranma.

I agree with that as well. Lke Miki in Revolutionary Girl Utena and Shinji in Neon Genesis Evanegelion sounded WAY too old for their actual ages. In the Japanese version their voices fit them perfectly.

I'm going tohave to be part of the minority and say that I like the Cowboy Bebop sub better. In the Japanese version it made it seem very lazy. Not that I'm saying Wendy Lee did a bad job, because she didn't. Though Faye, in the beginning, seemed to fulfill Spike's definition of her, which isn't really true though. She seemed kind of carefree and only interested in herself. Spike seemed hella' mellow and Jet seemed like he was somewhat clueless, but wise, in his young age of 30 something. Ed sounded realyl cute and adorable with her childlike voice.

Well for me anyways.

One really bad sub was FAKE. Now THAT was bad. Ugh.
