Anime of the Month Nominations (04/2009)

Voted for TuTu.

*shakes fist at the sky*

Accursed mystery and shonen genres! But I may Netflix it anyway, if it loses. Curiosity is getting the better of me by now.

Voted for Tutu as well, even though I nominated NHK. It just occurred to me, though--why is it that usually the newer titles always win? Are there merabers of this board who are sales reps for U.S. anime distributors? Granted, Higurashi (which seems to be winning) at least is a year old, but I've always wondered how come people consistently don't seem to have any favourites older than 1 year. I've come to accept this so I'm not griping, but I really would like to know how people on this board think when it comes to this Anime of the Month voting.

I threw in Welcome to the NHK because it was relatively new, so I hoped that it had a chance, considering Tutu will likely continue to job. Judging from how things are going, I guess "new" doesn't always mean "popular."

Hmm, now that I look at it I do notice that, although we have had some older titles (I note Kodocha, Cardcaptor Sakura, Zeta Gundam, Mermaid Forest, Gatchaman, and Macross). For me, there's not really a minRABet at work. If I see something that I feel is really deserving or I get really curious about a title, I put it out there.

Part of it is surely that the newer stuff is what's marketed and is easier to find. Although, given that certain classics and older shows are now becoming readily available online, it would be interesting to see some alternative nominations...
