You may now discuss the series, keeping in mind that the Grim Reaper hates spoilers. So if you must, please place them in spoiler tags like this:
Soul and Maka kiss.
Also, don't forget to rate the series when you're finished.

FUNimation has been promoting the hell out of this, everyone around here has been talking about it, and now that the first set is finally out, it immediately becomes Anime of the Month. I guess I should check it out.

I've mentioned it before, I haven't finished watching the series due to the DVD's getting released but I'm really, really interested based on what I've seen.

It's got a wonderful cast of characters, each with their own little goals and personalities so they don't seem like a team conglomerate. The animation is fun to watch, its very wacky and dripping with the feel of Halloween or something. The action scenes are also well done, except there's a tad too much use of shaky-cam effects which can get bothersome after a while.

It's a shame it came out during a period when anime is off TV. This show seems perfect for the Toonami audience.

I do love some Soul Eater, though the manga storyline continues to intrigue while the anime ending falls a bit flat, so I'd love to see a Brotherhood treatment for this series at some point, as unlikely as that may be.

The cast is great. It's an interesting dynamic because the characters make up a team and yet they work plenty on their own toward their own goals and such. They're quirky and fun but can get down to business when need be. Death the Kid is, of course, my favorite. He's hilarious with his OCD, yet because he's a Grim Reaper, his power is exceptional. Todd Haberkorn does a great job with the character. Laura Bailey is just right for Maka and Vic's Spirit is also a standout.

Really, I think the dub is fantastic outside of Ragnarok. I just hear too much Usopp in the sword and it doesn't quite work for me. It's not a bad voice, it's just not as fitting as the rest of the casting.

I'm looking forward for the next set to drop at the end of the month .

Soul Eater's probably my favorite series from the past few years. I really liked the creative setting and premise, the animation, the fights, and especially the music. All the characters were memorable and I don't think I hated a single character from the show (except maybe Blair, she was pretty much pointless, but the show kind of forgets about her after the beginning episodes so it's no big deal) which is usually rare for me. Even the villains were a joy to watch and I even rooted for them a few times (Eruka and Free especially)

The only 'problem' I had with the show is when it starts to differ from the manga. The show is still great and fun, it's just the manga's story is so much better and focuses on the secondary characters a lot more (I like Ox, Kilik, and Kim alot and was kinda sad they didn't get much focus in the show. So when people finish the anime, I highly recommend getting into the manga if you want more adventures with these characters). Who knows, maybe it'll get a reboot like Fullmetal Alchemist in a few years (one can always dream). Though without it being on on U.S. TV, I'm not sure it can gain a big enough audience in the West for the Japanese companies to notice. Shame; I think it has the potential to do fairly well if it could find the right channel.

As far as dubs go, it's pretty good. I generally prefer watching shows dubbed, and after watching the first thirteen episodes dubbed, I'm really liking it. My favorite voices are Kid's, Patty's, Liz's and Tsubaki's. The only voices I found a little iffy are Sid's and Ragnarok's, I think they sound a little bit too 'normal' considering what they are. I had a problem with Medusa's at first, but it grew on me as the episodes passed and hopefully it'll get even better. Excalibur is kind of a Catch 22 because his Engrish in the Japanese version was half of his comedy, but his voice is good so it's more of a fault with the language than the actor. Overall, I think the script and dialog flow a lot better in the English version.

How ironic that I'm just happen to be watching the legal subs and it's anime of the month. I just finished episode 37 and the series really is great. The story flows and it reminRAB me of a fusion between FMA and Bleach. And even though the story branches away from the manga in the late 30s, the series still remains great.(kind of sits itself on the same level as the different storyline for FMA if anything, it's not perfect but it's not bad either) I get the vibe once the manga enRAB(most likely in the 100s which is..another few years), it may come back for a remake. Yet why this isn't on Adult Swim or Syfy really confuses the heck out of me, it would really be perfect for both.

Favorite character wise, Kidd is probably my favorite due to his use of double guns and his switch to badass personality to freaked out about things not staying perfect. xD

Oh and..

Who here wants to play some piano? =)

Love this series to death. I've watched all the episodes and now i'm going to read the manga for the extra story that the anime diverted from. The only issue I have with the dub happens to be with my favorite character: Black Star sounRAB way too much like a girl! I know his VA in the dub and even in the original version was female, but at least the original voice made him sound like a younger boy. Makes me disappointed my favorite character got shafted like that, but otherwise they did a solid job on voices.

My only other issue with the treatment of the show is that they seem to push Maka and Soul too much in the promotion and seem to forget everyone else. This show is an enserable cast and all the main weapons and their technicians need to be included. It's just very misleading.

One of the best series I've seen. I think they were a bit quick to animate it since the Manga is just taking off. But I'll echo what everyone says here. The characters are the strong points, each one can easily hold their own story but the chemistry and team dynamic they have in their interactions is very fun!

I love every character. Especially blair hahaha. And the series comes with a great cast of villains. I too, hope this series gets the brotherhood treatment, but i don't see it happening for a loong time, besides the series now is one of the best animated i've seen. Aside from the ending, it equals some of the best anime i've seen.

I'l echo what others have said about it hopefully getting the Brotherhood treatment since I found out about the storyline split. The ending felt a little underwheling when I first watched it, and now I know why.

Anyways, one of the things I like best about this show is that it doesn't apologize for its surreal atmosphere. Everything in this show ranges from wacky to downright creepy, from the locales, the characters, even the sun & moon. It's simply nice to have an action series that doesn't take itself too seriously. Also can't forget about the awesome animation. The fight scenes are so awesomely choreographed.

And oh yes, the characters. It's right up there will Outlaw Star & YuYu Hakusho as one of my favorite casts in animation. There were spots where they could be annoying, but for the most part, I couldn't bring myself to hate any of them.

Definitely one of my favorite animated shows in the past 5-6 years and easily my favorite anime in this span.

I think one of the more unique things about it is it's a shounen with a female main character. A pretty well-written one, at that. You don't see that very often and I think that helps the show stand out even more.

I made it through the first disc. It's simple & casual fun and it's well-produced, so it's worth seeing so long as you go in knowing that it's not to be taken seriously (that laughing sun is a pretty obvious clue).

I like Maka and Soul, though I do have some worries about Black Star and Death the Kid being one-note jokes. So far though, it's easily entertaining and the latest confirmation of Bones' general awesomeness.

Episode six might be the best one, with Soul and Black Star working together and for the most part failing miserably. The "bromance" joke hit the right note with me to cap it off.

Figures, the one time there's an AotM thread I can participate in but I don't have the DVRAB in yet. I won't be getting my discs in until April, but I've been anticipating this show for a while. FUNi has done a bang-up job on promoting Soul Eater in the year since they picked it up. I went from being somewhat indifferent to the show to having mild interest to picking up both Parts 1 and 2 before I've even seen a full episode!
