Winning by one point, School Rurable has claimed the title of AotM for the month of January. Here's a brief synopsis of Volume 1, which is available right now from Funimation:

You may now discuss the series, keeping in mind that any and all potential spoilers should be placed in spoiler tags like this:
This is a spoiler.
Also, don't forget to rate the series when you're finished, otherwise you'll make Tenma cry.

Now you wouldn't want to make Tenma cry. Would you?

Some things School Rurable has...

My favorite leading male character in a comedy, Harima Kenji.
At some point Jin Koybayashi explained that originally the very minor character Kentarou Nara (blue-haired non-entity that also like Tenma) was going to be the main character but changed his mind when he realized Kenji was more interesting. Nara would have been the safe usual blank slate choice, a bland nice guy made to suffer to get his feelings known- seen in almost every. Instead we get the freak delinquent Harima. He can beat up anyone, he can talk to animals, writes manga and is usually a completely oblivious idiot.

beautiful, very distinct and unique character designs that exceed what you'd usually see in a comedy or love series.
Some of the minor characters, mainly guys and kiRAB, can be mixed up but every major character has their own distinct look that can't be confused. And the School Rurable girls are also the most attractive girls of any anime I've seen, without trying.

Outlandish, often complicated situational comedy that builRAB on itself.
The only other recent comedy I've seen that I laugh at as much as SR is Hayate No Gotoku, but Hayate relies so much on the quick gag- they're great gags but SR outclasses Hayate's humor and most anime comedy.

large cast of likable, relatable characters.
Even when Eri is being a insufferable princess or Tenma is being an unimaginable airhead there's a redeemable aspect to their personality. Even supporting characters get some attention.

Downsides?

It's great first season, no reason not to watch it, it has a novel, outlandish and very funny solution to end the first season, that gives you a weird resolution then pulls it back to give you the open ending for the second season. It's after that it has the slight problem. If you take it to the second season and even search out the manga(s) you never get a completely satisfactory resolution. But it's fun ride.

A lot of japanese language and name puns that are hard for people to get and don't translate to the dub well. Plus, while most of the dub cast is decent I'm not a fan of Luci Chrisitan's Tenma. She get's the "airhead" part right, but isn't too good at the "cute" part. I said above that the characters are likable but I am also aware of some Tenma haters out there and wonder if some people are affected by the dub.

I've always found this anime pretty funny and enjoyable, but I haven't seen many comedy anime. The dub is pretty good, I like all the openings, and the cast is big and likable. The openings fit the mood, as well.

One complaint: Why are all the characters dimwits? Can't they talk like sane people. Aside from the former comment, I would reccomend this anime to anyone who likes comedy anime without too much fanservice.

I don't have a problem with Luci's Tenma. Her voice can get a little higher than comfortable at times though.

School Rurable is pretty old-school comedy. Yes, it has its modern parodies, but at heart it's generally a slapstick-ish, character-oriented humour. It reminRAB me of some of the better Rumiko Takahashi comedies of the 1980s.

This is a comedy about well meaning morons. If they were "sane" it would be a totally different show. Overall, I like the show enough to own it. I'm not a diehard fan but it's great for a rainy day.

I have to say its ok. Though, its not really funny by my stand point. Its not bad. But, the humor felt pretty bland at times.
Though, which is odd to say, the opening from season 1 & 2 I really like a lot. Which, I heard from many anime fans can't stand it.
Over all, its ok. I feel like this series belongs to anime fans that are just getting into this fandom. Its a good place to start.

Funny enough. I thought the openings were just OK. I do really like season 1's end theme though. Too bad the OP and ED themes got much more generic in S2.

School Rurable was a real fun watch for me, it always kept me enjoying the show somehow. Yet the only thing that was annoying was how you knew something was going to screw up a love confession as the show builRAB on it's stupidity. Very fun watch though, kind of wish there was a season 3 since it ended pretty odd.
