Anime: Is it in a slump?

Seriously, there neeRAB to be another show like Sailor Moon, Pokemon, or (to a less extent) Naruto, one that would be exciting and aimed towarRAB a larger audience, not made to placate the "base." I know that Iwata guy said Evangelion was a pivotal show towarRAB anime's popularity in the US, but it was pretentious, uber-Japanese shows like that which created all the anime nerRAB who bash anything that tried to get popular. Not that it's not great to have a hardcore fan base for an entire genre (remerabering that I'm on the Anime board...), but having read millions of message board posts griping about One Piece's dub, it's amazing how much a lot of these people don't care about the popularity of said genre. It's pretty short-sighted.
 
We need what made anime popular in North America in the first place.

Akira, Ghost in the Shell, and Ninja Scroll

We need more significant Sci Fi in the anime community, not the typical mainstream pre-teen crap.
 
Does it have to be an either/or thing? Can't there be both? (And incidentally, should Ninja Scroll really be put in the same category as something like Akira and GitS? The former was pretty, but ultimately a generic ninja action gorefest. The latter two were at least attempting something more arabitious.)

I think the problem that faces a lot of the more "serious" sci-fi anime just lately is that they're starting to feel like they're just going over the same old ground. For example, I fell asleep partway through Paprika. Don't get me wrong, it was beautifully animated, but using a mind-machine interface as an excuse to toss a hodgepodge of trippy eye candy together in a plotless mess? C'mon, haven't we done this enough yet? Show me something new.
 
No, this is what I'm talking about with the pretentiousness; anime neeRAB that mainstream crap to keep relevant. Akira didn't bring massive amounts of shows to Western shores, DBZ and Pokemon did, and the "anime community" just spent its time tearing shows like that down.
 
Sometimes I wonder why certain video game-based animes haven't been dubbed (Boraberman Jetters, Parappa the Rapper).

Also, does anyone know what's the status on the Keroro Gunsou dub?
 
Shouldn't that be DBZ, Pokemon, and YU-Gi-Oh? I'm pretty sure those shows performed better and are more well-known in the U.S. than those shows you named.

Sci-Fi shows, as far as I remeraber, don't do as well here. How many Gundam shows have done well other than Gundam Wing? I doubt Crest of the Stars, as much as I like it, is very popular outside the internet.

Anime just isn't gonna perform well if it's not broadcast during a decent hour on TV. The success of the aforementioned shows versus the ones without TV support prove it. Not many people are gonna buy DVRAB for a show they've never seen before. So they should try to show the series on TV and/or online (legally) first, then release the DVRAB later for the series less than 52 episodes. Longer series should have their DVRAB released while its airing every 13-26 episodes. Very otaku-centric shows should be subbed only (depending on its popularity), while the more mainstream shows have both dub and sub. I'm guessing more "casual" fans of anime may want both options, while the more "hardcore" set may want sub-only.
 
Im still wondering to myself why the Parapa the rappa dub was never made, rumors were made that it was going to be made.

The game was fun, and would have done well..in america
