animation timeline not available in photoshop?

i have photoshop cs5 extended and i want to make an animated gif. thing is that when i try to view the animation window in timeline mode i cant. the option to use timeline mode isnt there. before it was and now i have no idea where it is or whats wrong. please help because the frame mode sucks
