Animated series that were pulled before their time

The producers at the time said they had plans that included some or all of the following: Phoenix (definite), Mr Sinister, Days of Future Past and possibly the Hellfire Club.
 
All of which were already covered by the Fox show. So it's no big loss that those plans were scrapped. It would've just been a case of "been there, seen that".

In any event, 4 seasons, 52 episodes and a finale don't equate a series being pulled before its' time.
 
93 episodes and a lifespan of over five years is pretty good for a series, especially a kind of obscure one like 6teen.
There's also allegedly a film in production. Still not exactly sure if it was a hoax or not.

Anyway, Dave the Barbarian definitely did not get a proper chance. It didn't even last a year. The show was awesome and had SO much potential. From what I've seen, it even got good ratings. :shrug:

Agreed with Megas XLR. I don't think I even need to explain it.

Fillmore was really freakin' awesome. If it was given enough of a chance, it could have blossomed into a huge hit.

Zim also deserved more. Wasn't it mostly cancelled due to Nickelodeon receiving complaints about "nightmares" their kids had from watching the show?
 
I've heard it had more to do with the fact that when ABC greenlit the show, the network was last in the ratings. But when the show was just about ready to premiere, ABC had become #1 in the ratings (due in no small part to Who Wants to be a Millionaire?). So the network was no longer willing to take a risk on the show, and ended up burying it in late May/early summer, and only aired 2 episodes.

On a related note, I find it very sad that the animated DTV movie "Clerks: Sell Out" was never made due to the Disney/Weinstein split.
 
Here are my picks:

- TNBA. Seen as a separate show from B:TAS, ending at only 24 eps was a bummer. I wish that part of the show lasted 52 episodes. We would have gotten to see more of Nightwing and Tim Drake as well. And updating all the designs for only 24 eps felt like a waste.

- TMNT original. The show had the potential to go on for 250-300 episodes.

- TMNT 2k3. While I like the way the show ended, I do think it could have gone on for 200 eps. I believe the original intention was to surpass the original cartoons episode count, and it ended pre-maturely at 155 measly eps.
 
Let's be real here for a minute, CC. Both of these shows had very long, healthy runs. In no way shape or form were they "pulled before their time". I'd be surprised if anyone agreed with you on that. 155 episodes isn't "measly" in the slightest. Most shows barely get a third of the way to that amount. I don't understand why longevity is so important to you.
 
I definitely gotta go with DG on this one. I think probably the only cartoon that could've said that 100 episodes wasn't enough was The Simpsons. Pretty much any other cartoon can't claim to be "pulled before their time" if they went past the 100 episode mark.

155 episodes is hardly "measly". No TV series that makes it past the 100 episode mark and also got a true final episode can have the claim made that it was "pulled before it's time".

Spectacular Spider-Man. I swear this was the only show I would sit around waiting for the next episode to happen. When people were seeing season 2 in Canada, I was foaming at the mouth waiting for it to be shown online (as Disney XD didn't only wait forever to show it, but it started at season one when it did [which was pretty much after all of the episodes from season 2 were aired in Canada). The worse part of it all...they were just getting started with the really good stuff. Things like Jameson having enough of a reason to hate Spidey and to finance the Spider Slayers and the Scorpion and Roderick Kingsley's rise in the world of crime as the Hobgoblin were things that were already set up. Just watching the show gets me irritated on what could have been...Oh and it was the show that got me interested in Spidey in the first place.

Wolverine and the X-men. Another show that I thuroughly enjoyed. Although the title character's episodes were pretty lackluster, any episodes focusing on other characters were GREAT. Someone needs an award for episodes like "Fallen Angel". Also, like Spectacular Spider-Man, the show was really starting to get to the really good stuff with the Age of Apocalypse. Thank goodness they got the Pheonix storyline out of the way.

Filmore!. I loved this show when I was younger. Then again, I was in high school when it was airing and could understand the parallels to the Safety Patrol and the police...and I loved it!

The Critic. I loved this one as well, as it was pretty clever with the humor. The movie parodies were great and such a fun cast of characters. How this show went off the air with the Simpsons STILL on today baffles me...
 
I understand that, but they could have revived Top Cat down the line like they did with The Jetsons and Johnny Quest, both of which didn't have that many original eps either until they were revived.

I think Top Cat would have been better suited as a Saturday Morning toon rather than prime time.
 
Off topic: I like the star brothers. They're cool.

On topic: Yeah I've mentioned something similar about shows that weren't exactly pulled before their time but as usual I'm ignored.



It's good to see other people dug Fillmore!



The same could be said about other HB shows but not all of them can get a second chance.
 
Okay, so it's now the list 4 shows featuring female action heroines compared to about 2000 action cartoons about males. I can't wait until someone lists 3 more!
