Animated series that were pulled before their time

...and the fact that show was originally created for prime time, with it only lasting one season.

Adding to list, I include Road Rovers, a show that had a lot of potential (especially with the additional members hinted about in Dawn of the Groomer and Take Me to Your Leader), but fell victim to Jamie Kellner's plan of pulling almost every animated title that ended up attracting adult viewers off the Kids' WB line-up.

-Kappa Mikey, both Wayside and Kappa Mikey should desserve a 3rd season. They beginned to pick up some good character development in the 2nd season

Remember folks, this is about shows that you feel were taken away too soon. I've noticed that (even in the OP's post) a few of you are just naming shows you wish were still around. Technically that's not the same as it being taken away before it's time. If something had 3+ seasons that hardly what I'd call being taken away before it's time or short lived or whatever else fits into that category.

Invader Zim - Nuff' said. (This comes from a guy who never says "nuff' said").

Xyber 9 - Even I discovered it via syndication I still think that it should've lasted longer. Perhaps I would've heard about it if it had.

Megas XLR - With tons of cartoons from the East and West to draw parodies from, this show could've lasted longer and stayed fresh. I can just imagine a Ben 10 parody or an Eureka Seven parody. Tch, why not both in the same episode? lol.

Disney's Fillmore! - One of the best animated shows ever created period. It's my second favorite animated show. It was like Recess meets Law & Order. This show deserved at least a 3rd season (IMO a 4th and 5th too) as well a movie. It could've been made-for-TV or theatrical for all I care.

Clerks TAS - Great show with great potential. Was it canceled due to the nature of the jokes or was it just not doing so hot in the ratings department?

Perfect Hair Forever - My third favorite animated series. This show only has 7 episodes and 6 of them do not disappoint (the last one sucks). I can watch the entire series a day, or a month, or a year, or 2 years from now and still find it hilarious. This show still needs to be on as we speak.
 
Exactly. While I would have liked to see more episodes of Disney Afternoon shows like Chip n' Dale's Rescue Rangers and Tale Spin, both shows ran for 65 syndicated episodes, which would be the equivilent of three seasons of a contemporary animated series.

I also agree that The Secret Saturdays ended too soon. While it did cover up the storyline nicely, which many series are unable to do, I really think that they could have made the series last longer. Even the creator Jay Stephens had ideas about the third season.

The Pirates of Dark Water was more like one of those series that ended in the middle of its storyline. It was a pretty interesting cartoon with a continuing story and it was creative, but they never finished it. It would have been nice to conclude the story.

Even though American Dragon: Jake Long had a good amount of episodes, I think that it could have lasted a season or two longer than it did. The finale that they did make was really rushed and left too many doors open for my tastes. Plus, it was disappointing that after the upgrades in storylines and character development in season two, they wouldn't be able to continue that with a third season.
 
Most of the titles I can think of that haven't been brought up already involve shows that were taken off TV here in America without getting a full run of available episodes.

Monster Allergy - Only around a dozen of the first season episodes were aired here before the show disappeared. Another season of 26 episodes have been made since. It'd be nice to see it again.

Di-gata Defenders - Although the first 26 eps have aired in the U.S. (most only one time), another 26 or so remain to be aired. Don't hold your breath waiting for 4Kids to air them--they can't even be bothered to upload all the aired eps to their website.

Iron Kid (Eon Kid) - After airing and reairing the first 24 eps of this CG series, the CW 4Kids never aired the last two episodes, leaving everyone wondering just how it all ended. Thanks, much...

Dragon Hunters - This humorous French series (later adapted into a feature film that was only released on DVD here) briefly aired on CN (although more eps were available on CN Video for a while). Two full seasons of TV episodes are available.

A show that was aired in its entirety (though not in order) that I'd like to see return is the CG Spiderman series that aired on MTV. Although Spectacular Spiderman has eclipsed it as a show for me, I really enjoyed the series and would like to see the story get a final ending.
 
Fillmore tops my list. ABC gave up on it too soon. I absolutely loved that show. "Recess" actually meets the sprit of Quinn Martin, if you will, w/Don LaFontaine announcing act 1, 2, et al.

Also:

Legend of Calamity Jane--WB gave up way too quickly.

Superman '88---If CBS paired it with the Ninja Turtles in the middle of the morning, it might've gotten a 2nd season or more. I have the DVD set, and the lone drawback, IMPO, was the Family Album backup feature. Cheese for breakfast, anyone? ;) :p :D

Mighty Orbots---A more lighthearted variant on Voltron, IMPO. ABC just flat dropped the ball, as usual.

Goldie Gold & Action Jack---1st Ruby-Spears series that ABC didn't renew after the 1st season. Could've stood to get more network support.

Road Rovers---I get the love for this show. Another series WB gave up on way too soon.
 
And sadly, most of the original Japanese-language episodes were destroyed; Japan (ironically) had to do with subtitled episodes of the English dub.



According to Matt Wilson (how much I miss him 'round here), it was cancelled because Kevin Smith trolled Disney and obviously ABC wasn't pleased.
 
In what respect did Darkwing Duck end on a cliffhanger? How do you figure? I know that there was some stuff fans would've liked to have seen followup on (Taurus Bulba, reconciling Negaduck I and II, etc.), but it didn't, in any technical sense, end on a cliffhanger, as far as I can see. The last episode, "Extinct Possiblity", is a standalone.
 
I read somewhere that the show wasn't picked up because the episodes were in black and white and TV was transitioning to color...

So did Astro die in the real last episode?
 
Spectacular Spider-man: a series that was cut down in its prime due to idiotic mismanagement by both Sony and Marvel. 26 episodes of a show with no characters that I didn't enjoy watching, and I'm not sure I could say that about any show I've watched EVER!
 
The show also had the misfortune of coming out on a programing block that was on shaking ground, and was 'passing the torch' to another block that had no interest in airing it, anyway. Plus, it was experiencing the Disney purchase of Marvel, so 'Spectacular Spider-Man' was a series that came out at the wrong place at the wrong time. :sad:I totally agree. I'd rather have a third season of 'Freakazoid' than 'Pinky, Elmyra, And The Brain'. :( Heck, I'd rather watch Sinbad's new tv show than 'Pinky, Elmyra, And The Brain' :p

Transformers Animated:
Its been mentioned before but from what I've seen no clear answer for Kari's past. I think NickToons aired season1-2 and thats it, I assume no more was made?
We even got to see Roddy Prime for a nano sec too, and thats all the screen time he got.

Only half was dubbed into English. :(

Megas XLR - A show that had great potential to be one of the funniest action comedy shows that CN could have had, i remember that George and Jody had plans for a feature and also in the third season they will show the origins of the Glorft and the war.

The Secret Saturdays - Another one that could have turn into one of the most popular shows today, it had great characters and story arcs that where just entertaining, not to mention having one of the coolest plot twist on a show and showing that death can be apply on a kids cartoon.

Spectacular Spider-Man - I think one of the best Spidey cartoons i have seen, first to Spider-Man TAS. The show had some nice plot twist and revelations, showing that they can confuse the viewer on the identity of the villain(Green Goblin), i so wanted to see what happened next to the characters like the relation of Harry, Gwen and Peter and see if Mary Jane will finally fall in love with Peter and of course the appearance of the Scorpion and the Hobgoblin.

He-Man and The Masters of the Universe 2003- It was one of those shows that could have done well along with TMNT, the story arc was getting interesting with the appearance of Hordak and his minions, Teela's past, She-Ra and many revelations.

Transformers Animated - One of the few show that was getting interesting in the second and third season. I still hate they put human villains into the show but it was nice to see more of the Decepticons fighting with the Autobots, another season would have work and see a more devastating fight between Optimus and Megatron.
 
W&tXM was another case like Spectacular Spider-Man: it was in the wrong place at the wrong time, specifically during the time when the ownership of Marvel's cartoon properties was in a state of flux and about to change hands.

X-Men: Evolution wasn't canceled prematurely, it simply ran its' course. The show got 4 whole seasons. That's the standard number of seasons for most shows, and more than many other shows have gotten. Plus, the series got a definite finale: the premise of the show was the mutants in high school, and they saved the world from Apocalypse and graduated in the last episode. Where else could they go with it? They couldn't continue the series with the mutants as full-fledged adult X-Men because that would just be X-Men: TAS all over again.



I've never seen Wayside so I can't comment on that show, but I respectfully disagree about Kappa Mikey. I enjoyed the show, but things began to run dry by the end of the 2nd season. I honestly don't think they could have taken it much further.
