Animated movies fans !!??

You could have the greatest story ever.... but if the visual element isn't there to grab the audiences attention and suck them in its going to fail!

Zincubus' point is as valid as any ones.

Got to have the Ghibli's of Spirited Away, Porco Rosso, Princess Monoke etc. Yes Akira, also Cowboy Bebop the Movie, left field choice Urotsokodoji, went to an animation film festival and that was on the bill, only to be told customs had confiscated it on it's arrival to these shores. It's replacement couldn't have been more different, Grave of the Fireflies, one of the most moving animations I've ever witnessed. Yikes all Anime there, so Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, the first and still the best plus Pinnochio which threw a lot of new animation tricks at the viewer (and was my first ever film at the cinema thats the 1970 re-release, not that ancient yet). Pixar are geniuses, right down to the shorts- For The BirRAB is still my favourite. And I'm always a sucker for stop motion, be it effects or films so yes to Henry Sellick's work and look out for 9 scheduled for 9th September.

I actually dont enjoy any cartoons apart from Tom and Jerry , Deputy Dawg and maybe TopCat :)

The list below are theTYPE of animated movies I enjoy.
Robots
The Incredibles
Antz
Ice Age 1 and 2
Toy Story 1 and 2
Ratatuie

Thanks

Why?
Just CG 3-d model animation?

Surely there must be a '2d'\hand-drawn\traditional movie that you've enjoyed.
Looking at that list the first film I would suggest is The Iron Giant - which is brilliant and hand-drawn style (uses computers as well), directed by Brad Bird (who later directed The Incredibles and Ratatouille) and it matches up with them quite well in emotion, action and humor.

I get your opinion, fine if thats what you prefer. I do find it a little strange to dismiss ''traditional'' films entirely. Especially when you start a conversation to discuss "Animated Movies".

"Traditional" and "CG" movies are both cartoons and animated films equally. Toy Story is as much a cartoon as Snow White.

To continue the conversation without going back and forth on this debate...

Anyone who hasn't seen them, the studio Ghibli films are great and I highly recommend them. Castle in the Sky is one of my favourite films, and it happens to be the first Studio Ghibli film I have seen.

Same here! :D, I love the film! a bit gutted that it's not the same English Dub that I originally watched on TV, But you get used to James Van Der Beek the more you watch it.

I love all types of Animation 2D, CGI, Early Disney to Great films in the 80's and 90's: An American Tail for example:o.

But at the mo I love Japanimation Movies (even series's, NARUTO, BLEACH & FMA:cool:), Studio Ghibli and types of manga. After Buying Spirited Away (probably one of the best ever) I went and bought as many that intested me.

I couldn't agree more!

Princess Mononke
Laputa: Castle in The Sky (of course, lol)
Howls Moving Castle
Vampire Hunter D
Akira (I actually want the original Dub for that, I prefered it when they Pronounced the Kanada, rather than saying the Country Canada)
My Neighbour Totoro
Whisper of the Heart and the Follow up The Cat Returns.
Bleach - Memories of Nobody

and many, many more.

At the Movie I like the Movie The Girl Who Leapt through Time The story is amazing and and animation is unbelivable. I wept like a bitch at the end....:o....Highly recommended ;).

Just taking the 2D standing up to CG argument a little further. Although its more stylised than the Gibli films, I think that Sleeping Beauty has an amazing realism in its animation that some CG films (ie Madagascar) lack.

That's been in my 'shopping basket' on Amazon for a while, been planning on getting it for a long time. Just need funRAB.. But will definately get it now.

Just watched Sleeping Beauty for the first time in a good number of years yesterday, and the animation is superb. I was really getting into it as well - can't believe I know the songs when I haven't seen the film since I was a young'en. :D
