Animated films that didn't happen, but you wish that they did

We all have our likeness for animated films, but there are times where some animated films do not get off the ground. Sometimes they do, but they are not how the people behind it originally wanted it. So what are animated films that didn't get made, that you wished had happened? Here's how it works. You name the film(unproduced animated or an animated film that got meddled with by the executives from what it was originally supposed to be. But ends up being something that the people that worked on it didnt want it as), a bit of a background regarding on the film, why it got canceled, and what do u think would have happened if it made. Meaning the outcome of it. I have one to think of at the moment. I'll edit it once I get something else to think about.

Bobby's Girl- This was a parody of the popular teen comedies at the time. This film was in the planning stages when Ralph Bakshi was working on Mighty Mouse. He came up with the idea with John K. It got canned because Trinstar canceled the production. However concept artwork of this proposed feature can be seen in the Unfiltered collection of Ralph Bakshi book. I know that there may be people who are not big fans of Ralph or John, but I am curious on how this would have been. I think it would have been either a PG13 or a close to R rated animated film. It probably would have been a cult classic, but ending up being close to its budget. My brother's friends think that if this happened, we would have gotten an animated film of Scott Pilgrim. I think John would have had a better career as a film director, but then again he wouldn't have given us the "creator driven" era for cartoons. Aside from the original concept for Cool world, I would have liked to see this happen.
 
Well clear to me was the Pixar film Newt, after reading the plot I somewhat thought "Hey this would be really neat having the story revolve around 2 creatures being the only of there existant kind".

I'm sad it got cancelled it sounds way better than Brave which in turn doesn't sound awful.
 
After learning about what Walt Disney had originally planned for Fantasia, I always wondered what it would be like to see the different versions that showcased both the evolution of animation and music. I'm also a little disappointed that Fantasia 2006 got canned, too.

Some of Don Bluth's movies that never made it off the ground sound interesting, but the one that looks the best is Satyrday.
 
I think for me it would be Disney's Snow Queen.

It looked like it might be a more serious princess movie and the concept art looked really nice.
 
There was supposed to be another movie for Hey Arnold! One where Arnold goes looking for his parents. But that never happened :(
 
As much as i love The Emperors New Groove, it still wouldve been interesting to see what Kingdom of the Sun couldve been like. From what ive gathered, it was just another generic muscial fairy tale w/ ur standard wizard bad guy and underdog protagonist who has a love interest. But after hearing the song 'Snuff out the light', i became really fascinated by this even more. It was a shame that the original director didnt want to compromise w/ the studio and threw away $1 million worth of animation. Hopefully there will be a bluray release of ENG where u can watch the unfinished version of this supposed gem.

Another example is The Thief and the Cobbler. If Richard Williams finished it the way he intended, i think it wouldve been a successful phenomenon. It wouldve prevented the 90s from being the 'disney knockoff' decade that we know. But then, there would probably be no toy story or lion king. Because, if the film were a success, traditional animation would still thrive to this day w/ films that have a variety of genres (horror, film noir, drama, scifi). Directors like Don Bluth, John K, Ralph Bakshi, and Brad Bird would have had more creative control and animation would no longer be seen as 'kids stuff'. Thats what rich williams intended for this film, to deconstruct the disney formula and inspire filmmakers to think outside the box and invite audiences to new realms in the medium.
But unfortunately, thanks to the Miramax cut, animation is still stuck in that box of the mainstream formula that exists to this day. CGI is king, and 2d animation has reduced itself to cult status. There are only a few films that still try to push the envelope and we fans or handdrawn animation can make a better future for the animation medium if we support 2d projects such as the new winnie the pooh film and support down-and-out artists like ralph bakshi and richard williams to make new films.
 
Ikuhara Kunihiko was originally going to direct the Sailor Moon SuperS movie. The original concept sounded very surreal and original. Sailor Uranus needed the Tailsmans to awaken Sailor Neptune. In the end, he left the project and we ended up getting an extended episode. :/
 
Wow! I had no idea this was ever in the cards.

The good think about Miller's horrible Spirit movie is that it has been instantly fogotten, thus leaving the field wide open for another adaptation.
 
Why wouldn't there be?

I second Thief and the Cobbler and Brad Bird's The Spirit as movies I'd want to see. Also Bird's PG-13 2D sci-fi film Ray Gunn, but there's still some chance that might happen. Pretty much any of the older treatments of Little Nemo by the likes of Chuck Jones and Hayao Miyazaki probably would have been leagues better than the mess that got made. Finally, one movie which may have been good or horrible but I'm really curious about would be Disney's Wild Life, which was going to be their first CG film without Pixar but in a 2.5D Cartoon Network-inspired style and a glam rock musical set in '70s New York with a lot of sex and drugs. It's easy to see why it wasn't made, but damn, it'd be awesome if it was.
 
Disney's Snow Queen and Fantasia 2006 come to mind. I wanted to see the former for the classic Disney magic and the latter because I am a fan of Fantasia.
 
Iv'e heard rumors that in the late 90's, Disney actually considered a feature lenght film staring Mickey Mouse, which i think would have been very interesting to see.
 
Yeah--it was IIRC about Mickey going missing and would have resulted in a big crossover with several other Disney films such as having Minnie seek help from Basil of Baker Street. The idea was very intriguing.
 
Because the animation in TatC wouldve inspired animators to the point where they could push the envelope in 2d animation that there would be no need for cgi. plus the story itself w/ its lack of songs and unconventional character traits wouldve ushered in opportunities for underground animators to bring their work to the mainstream and make everyone accept the notion that animation is not limited to kids entertainment.
 
The Chowder TV Movie that was gonna be made as finale. It had Chowder finding a treasure map to some Gravy thing and Endive, and pirate rats after the map too. Plus a big kiss with Chowder-Panini. It sounded MUCH better than the finale we got...
 
That just means more animated films would be made, and perhaps better ones. It doesn't mean there'd be no CGI; remember, Toy Story was made in the midst of the Disney Renaissance, and in its own way it was just as risky as TatC would have been. I don't think it would mean no Lion King either. MAYBE its influence would make it turn out slightly differently but I think Disney would keep doing its thing as long as they were successful. Williams' success would simply allow people to do other things.
 
I always wondered how a cinematic series like Samurai Jack would handle a movie, though I never expected one to be made. Of course, recently I've heard that a SJ movie has been given the green light, so now at least I can get excited.
