Animated Films of Our Childhoods...

was trying to remember all the animated films I grew up with that were not from Disney. I was a late 80's, early 90's kid. I was feeling nostalgic and trying to remember all the animated, non-Disney movies I grew up with. I tried to think of the animated, 2D (cel-animation) films from the 80's and 90's. Are there any I'm missing:

...after reading that list are there any 2D cel-animated films from the 80's, 90's or early 2000's you can think of that I missed? Excluding Disney they can be from any company or director. I'm doing this out of a nostalgia for the films I watched as a kid.

What am I missing?
 
I'm 99% sure that The Brave Little Toaster movies were by Disney. But I guess it would be hard for me to come up with a list of movies I watched as a kid if I had to exclude Disney films - I remember watching The Lion King, A Bug's Life, Toy Story, The Brave Little Toaster, etc. May I ask why you don't want Disney movies on the list, when it's probably certain that many members grew up on Disney films?
 
I remember watching a Raggedy Ann & Andy movie when I was little. It used to air frequently on Showtime or HBO.

I also remember (circa very early-90s) having on VHS a Peter Pan movie that wasn't made by Disney, but I can't remember who made it. My brother and I used to watch it often.
 
I know that the first one was by some indepenant company that was released on video by Disney.
Also you are missing Fivel Goes West from the Don Bluth list.
 
Rock and Rule is an awesome one. :D I just got it earlier this year. It was made all the way back in the 80's.

Noooooot exactly for the kiddies, though. What with all the suggestive imagery and the demon summoning/drug abuse/etc. AWESOME music, though.
 
refugee - Brave Little Toaster wasn't directly made by Disney.

I don't want Disney/Pixar films because those are easy to track. There's a page on wikipedia that lists all of Disney's 50 canon films and Pixar's films. Many sites have that list. Disney has a defined canon and using Pixar's website you can list their films so I need no help in finding out which films Disney has made.

However for other 2D animated films, there's no list like that. No "list of 2D animated films from 19XX".

So I already know all the Disney/Pixar films because their lists are well defined. As for other animated films of our childhoods, some, say like Princess and the Swan, were a company's only animated feature or one of only three features so they aren't on a nicely outlined list.

Dr.Pepper - Bluth actually had no hand in that film despite beliefs he did and from what I hear, he detests it. He probably detests the Land Before Time sequels, too.
 
Bartok the Magnificent was the only sequel he ever had a hand in and supposedly he wasn't too proud of that one, either, despite working on it.

He did not write, direct, produce, animate...ANYTHING Fievel Goes West. It was actually written and created by David Kirschner who wrote the original and third installment, as well. He's well known for several movies on my list. He produced Once Upon A Forest as well as Cat's Don't Dance among others.
 
How about The Pagemaster? That one had some live action in it, but it came out in '94 (I think). I would put The Prince of Egypt, Joseph: King of Dreams, and The Iron Giant on that list as well. There are also the Peanuts movies, such as Bon Voyage Charlie Brown and Race for Your Life Charlie Brown.

Yoram Gross also made a lot more movies than Dot and the Kangaroo. I haven't seen any of them, but I think he made nine or ten Dot movies.

Also, The Scooby Doo movies (especially Scooby Doo on Zombie Island) were a big part of my pre-teen-hood. Are you counting movies that were spin-offs of TV shows? If so, you'll definitely have to include the Pokemon movies, which were a huge part of my childhood in the 90s. There were also movies based on Sailor Moon, Rugrats, Recess, and a ton of other shows. What about these?
 
You are missing something.Not to come across as rude,but you need to list the reasons why you like all of these films.Forum rules. Noobsalot.
 
"Childhood" :anime: it seems to me all those listed are from "the second coming ADD" (after Disney Dominance)

Here's some no one seems to have ever heard of that are favorites
Gay Purr-ee When Jon-Claude goes "mouse destroyer" mode, it's one of the funniest scenes I've ever seen. I see I can get this on DVD.:eek:

The Incredible Mr. Limpet. A great half live action half animated movie

The Man Called Flintstone. of course anything Flintstone was an icon.

Rikki Tikki Tavi, only 25 minutes long but since there was only one made. Such a shame they don't make good narration cartoons of books.

The Brotherhood of the Black Arrow. I know this animated movie of the classic book existed but can find nothing about it anywhere. I think there was a Robinhood as well, but remember less of it.

newer but just as good,,, The Hobbit. For some reason, mostly the chopped story and poor animation, the Return of the King was not very good overall, though parts were better.
 
Ducktales: The Movie
It was my favorite Disney movie when I was young.

Rock-A-Doodle
It was my favorite Don Bluth movie, until I realized Secret of N.I.M.H was ten times better.

Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown
Though the first two Peanuts movies were really, REALLY good, I always enjoyed this one because it was just one big fun adventure.
 
I can remember this one from Hbo (I believe that's the channel) about this princess and her brothers. The new queen is jealous of her, so she changes the brothers into swans (or something similar) and banishes her. It ends up that she meets the brothers again because they turn to humans at night. She cures them by making shirts out of nettles (I even remember trying to do that myself). I'm sorry I can't remember the title, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who saw it. ;)
