Animated characters who disappear with no explanation

I would've said Kevin and Cleveland Junior from Family Guy, but they did eventually explain those disappearances. Kevin died in Iraq and Cleveland Junior was, I guess, eating.

Also Cleveland Jr was apparently with Loretta after the divorce as explained in a quick throwaway line in the Cleveland Show Pilot.

Not counting the live action movie, Scrappy Doo hasn't been seen or heard from since the Superstar 10 movies in the late 80's.

My personal theory is that after 13th Ghost was caught at the end 'The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo', Scrappy stayed with Flim Flam and VIncent Van Ghoul to study the mystic arts, with the Superstar 10 movies taking place before 'The New Scooby Doo & Scrappy Doo Show' where Daphne returned.

I'm not sure how to spell his last name...

Dr. Mifesto(?). A scientist from South Park. He is seen in a lot of episodes from the early seasons. Also a lot of characters who move into South Park and by the episode some characters turn out to not move out of south park in some cases.

Another character from South Park is Satan's son who is only seen in season 1 of South Park.

I just assumed Scrappy (finally) went back home to his mother in New York (where one episode revealed he was from...) after "Reluctant Werewolf"'s events were over...

Hmmmm. Those are all good theories. I often wondered where Scrappy has been hiding. Of course, we can't really count the live action movie, because he was too much out of character there. Maybe I should do a fan fic about that, or they could make that into one of the DTV movies. After all Scappy did sort of have a cameo in the Goblin King movie. That's something to think about.

Tucker Wittenberg of Hey Arnold. He had one episode, and disappeared, even though his father the coach appeared in three more episodes. Tucker wasn't even there for the Second Marriage episode.
.

Dr. Mephesto. You're not the only one who wish his comeback ;) I want him too as well as Pip.

Damien (Satan's son) also did a little cameo in the movie South Park: Bigger, longer and uncut when the boys goes out of the movie theater after the saw for the 2nd time the Terrance and Phillip movie.

As soon as they brought in Comissioner Gordon, Detective Yin completely disappeared from The Batman. She got a mention in a throw-away line in a "Gotham in the future" episode, but never seen or really mentioned what happened to her again.

That naked family I cant even remember there names in Family Guy. They seemed like they were going to be part of the supporting cast and then they just dissapered. So far since the renewal there the only characters that dotn show up or get a cameo or even a mention as to why there gone. My guess is Herbert got to the boy and the family probraly had to move. That or Stewie killed them. Knowing Family Guy it was a horrible fate.

Pip, Timmy, Tweek, Towlie, Dr. Mephisto and that creepy thing that was always around him. I haven't seen any of these characters in a while not even in cameos. Oddly enough they used to be pretty popular Hell Timmy took Kenny's spot in the opening credits at one point.

Eustace and Randy on King of the Hill. They used to be Hank and Bobby's opposits these two really geeky liberals guess that got tired of the south. The liberal social worker who I guess you can say was KotH villain always making life hard for hank. He left for good I guess back to LA after Luanne's wedding.

What comes to my mind is characters from the original G.I.Joe and Transformers cartoons. As the new characters came in to promote their toys, you didn't see as much of the first wave of characters.

I think Pip's last episode was an episode based on him in either season 6 or some season around it. I'd like to see him again.

Also there was a point when I thought Officer Barbrady was forgotten about by the writers. But we briefly see him in the Election 2008 episode and in the episode when Guinie Pigs take over.

Actually, I caught a really quick glimpse of Mephesto earlier this season. He was in the background during the song in "Eat, Pray, Queef."

A surprsingly interesting example comes from the PBS show Cyberchase, relating to one of the later seasons. At the end of a four part series with Hacker failing to take over Cyberspace with a transforming machine, the Cyber pal's friend Slider is seeing going home with his dad to attempt to find a cure for his disease. Now, this is significant, because one of the main plots in Cybechase has been trying to find Slider's missing father, and this episode appears to wrap it up.

What is strange is that, in the next episode Slider appears in, he's back to asking Hacker where he took his dad, as if the previous episode with him never happened! Worse, his dad never appears in the cartoon again, which makes this not just a case of a character disapearing for no reason, but a character disapearing from the show in a way that contradicts previous events!

This to me strikes as a huge mistake on the shows creators, even considering that it's only a PBS cartoon. I really don't understand why that happened, as you'd think they'd be able to catch something like that.

I know that Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure were retired from The Simpsons in tribute to Phil Hartman's death, but was the disappearance of these characters ever alluded to afterwards? I know Dr. Marvin Monroe was featured in a background gag with a sign in a hospital reading "The Dr. Marvin Monroe Memorial Wing".

Also reporter Summer Gleeson vanished from Batman: TAS when the series moved into its TNBA episodes, altough she had a wordless cameo in one of the last Justice League episodes during a crowd shot.

About 2/3rds of the way into Darkwing Duck's syndicated run Tank Muddlefoot disappeared completely. His last episode was the Christmas episode and he didn't appear in any of the episodes that aired in syndication in 1992, or any of season 2 (the 1992 ABC season).

According to Tad Stones they got rid of him because he was unnecessary.

They still do appear in background shots from time to time, but yeah, there really wasn't any explanation of, say, why the Simpson family doesn't go to Hutz anymore, and instead goes to the Blue Haired Lawyer, someone who has previously worked against them.

Another one is the Laura Powers. Ruth Powers still appears from time to time as well, she appeared in The Simpsons Movie, but I haven't seen her daughter Laura Powers probably since her only major appearance in New Kid On The Block. It's too bad, I really liked her.
