Animated box-office bombs you actually saw in theaters

It was the closest thing to a bomb I've seen, though. I missed Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet, and Home on the Range on their theatrical runs.

I have alot, even some are from the past.

Cool World- I remember being somewhat interested in this movie, and it was the first film that got me into Bakshi. I remember only seeing a few people coming to see this movie, but then most people thought of this a different take with live-action and animation. The only thing that was good about this was the animation and the music.

Quest for camelot- Wasnt amused by a thing when I saw this movie. Personally it was like Warner Bros was trying to hard to follow Disney or even Don Bluth's footsteps. The whole thing itself was like a proposed bluth film that never got off the ground.

Astro boy- Saw this with my dad, it was a hit and miss. I'm surprised this bombed. Not to mention the fact that Imagi Studios is one of my favorite studios who actually got CG animation right.

Happily N ever after- The whole thing itself would've worked better as a 2D film, but heck I just wished I didnt see this. I knew it was going to fail when I saw it with someone I once knew. And I dont even like this film.

Princess and the frog- Surprised this one did bomb, I thought it wouldve been a hit. Is alright If I blame smurfs and chipmunks for making this work of art bomb?

Treasure Planet and Looney Tunes Back in Action. The latter actually melted, not once but twice. I got a refund and want back to see it later wishing I hadn't bothered.

I saw Atlantis when I was in like preschool. I have no idea why I was there, I didn't want to see it. Maybe my mom did. I ended up falling asleep.
Also saw Home on the Range (meh), Flushed Away (it was pretty good, I liked it), Teacher's Pet (I used to love that show so much, haven't seen it recently), Emperor's New Groove (one of my favorite Disney movies) and Rugrats Go Wild (I think i fell asleep during that too).

Would the Polar Express count, or did that do pretty good? I saw that on a grade-school trip, not quite sure why.

I can think of a few more movies on that list that wouldn't really qualify for bombs, and I'm pretty sure Nightmare made enough money to make a profit. It cost less to make than Disney's animated movies at the time cost to make, and $50 mill was a decent amount at the time to earn.

I saw Treasure Planet when it came out in theaters, but that's about it. Being a kid, I never suspected that it would end up doing so horribly, and I only found out about its poor performance years later on wikipedia. :p

I just read that Astro Boy is selling very well on DVD and Blu-Ray, right behind Princess and the Frog. I'm glad to see that. It's one overlooked movie that deserved to succeed.

Looney Tunes: Back In Action
PowerPuff Girls
Cats Don't Dance
Home on the Range
Astro Boy
Hey Arnold the Movie
Balto
Teacher's Pet
Flushed Away

There's probably a lot more, but I guess it depends on what you define a box-office bomb.

The Nightmare Before Christmas made over $50 million on a $25 million budget in 1993. Certainly a drop in the bucket compared to the blockbuster Disney fairytale movies of the period (Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, ect.), but hardly a "bomb". If you double your original investment, then that's a success.

That's the problem with this whole thread...people have gotten so used to movies making $85 million in their opening weekends these days that anything that doesn't is considered a flop, despite how profitable it may actually be. 9 may have topped out at $30 million, but that's what it cost to make, so it at least broke even (and will turn a modest profit once DVD/Blu-Ray sales are factored in). A real flop would be something like The Quest For Camelot, which reportedly cost over $100 million (although that money doesn't appear anywhere on the screen ) and made back less than $20 million at the box office.

Over a classic two-year period I went to the theater to see:

My Little Pony: The Movie
She-Ra, Princess of Power: The Movie
The Adventures of the American Rabbit

I don't know if they were bombs or not, but these movies stunk something awful. I think I was punishing myself by going to see these.

I only saw Hey Arnold with my mom, my sister and her friend...we ended up walking out and getting a refund, it was so boring!
