Just watched this and thought it was fantastic. Lots of understaded performances come together to make an unsettling and at times distressing story of a lad with an awful criminal family who is seen as a soft touch by his uncles when they are investigated for the murder of a couple of police officers. It's a slow film but very atmospheric and there's an air of dread that runs throughout.
Guy Pierce, who I've been a fan of since The count of Monte Cristo, is excellent as the investigating officer and Ben Mendelsohn, who was fantastic in Beautiful Kate (another Aussie flick I've enjoyed recently) plays the unhinged uncle to a tee. The real evil though comes from an unexpected source and the way it plays out right until the last scene (and beyond) is superb.
I don't do film ratings but I can recommend this, another great drama from down-under, wholeheartedly
