What are some shows that y'all didn't watch during it's original run, but later on enjoyed after the show had ended? (Shows that were on before you were born don't count!!!!! It has to be shows that were on while you were old enough to watch TV and missed out on.)


I have a few shows to name (In no particular order):

Gargoyles (Original Run: '94-'97, Year I watched: Feb. '09-May '09): I never cared for Gargoyles during its Original Run because it was so different from the other Disney Afternoon shows and it didn't even seem like a Disney Cartoon. It was confusing to me so I never watched it. What finally got me interested in watching this show was the cult following of this show and the great reviews.

X-Men Evolution (Original Run: '00-'03, Year I watched: Dec. '08-Jan. '09): Actually, I watched the 1st half of the 1st season during its original run before I gave up on it for the same reasons people hate this show. I finally decided to go back and watch this series because I wanted to see what I had missed out on and because I'm a Marvel/X-Men fan.

Justice League (Original Run: '01-'04, Year I watched: Nov. '08-Mar. '09): I had outgrown new cartoons when this show was on during its original run and never cared to watch it. If I had known that this show was a continuation of the Batman and Superman cartoons that I grew up watching in the 90's and had the most of the same characters/voice actors & creative staff with the same animation, I would have watched this show religiously. What got me interested in finally watching this show was reading about the DCAU/Timmverse on Wikipedia and seeing that B:TAS, TNBA, S:TAS and BB that I grew up watching in the 90's were all in the same continuity with JL & JLU.

Justice League Unlimited (Original Run: '04-'06, Year I watched: Apr. '09): Same as Justice League.


I'm 20 years old and was born on Oct. of '88, just so y'all can guess what age I was during these shows original runs.
 
I never got a chance to watch many cartoons, heck, barely any of them during their original run since I was overseas most of my childhood.

Gargoyles is the most recent example, since I never got a chance to watch the show much when it came on television.
 
I missed out on the Angry Beavers during it's original run(which I now regret). Many years later, I caught it on Nicktoons TV. Sadly, it was taken off the station a few months later. This show is even better than the old episodes of Spongebob.
 
Since I spent most of my childhood in Japan, there were tons that I missed out.

If I recall, by the time I started watching "Rocko's Modern Life", the final episodes were being aired (summer of 1996). "Ren & Stimpy" has just ended, too. Thank god for reruns.

I completely missed "Duckman" during its run, too (granted, I would've been too young back then), and I didn't really see any episodes until the DVDs came out.
 
For some reason, the town that I lived in didn't get Cartoon Network until the summer of 2004. It was horrible!! I missed out on the 2002 He-Man cartoon, and the first two seasons of Justice League before it came Justice League Unlimited. I didn't get to see episodes of both until they were released on vhs or dvd. And back in the day Cartoon Network had really good reruns too. I didn't get to watch the reruns of Thundercats, G.I.Joe, Batman, and Superman. Not cool man, not cool.
 
I enjoyed Garfield and Friends a lot! I never saw it til' first or second Grade in Syndication on The U. then they took it off and replaced it with some animal show :mad:

Didnt see it again til' my friend got Boomerang in '06 and was taken off after I saw one episode on that Network. Before all this, I felt like the old Garfield website was just taunting me! i wasnt aware that it was on and they had a section Dedicated to the show. :sad:
 
Although I do remember seeing a few episodes of Animaniacs on FOX during its original run when I was 5-6 (not to mention QVC's promoting the show and its merchandise on their Warner Bros Studio Store spots, where the voice actors would be guest stars), I really didn't get into the show until it debuted on Cartoon Network in 1998.

After seeing the travesty that Nickelodeon/Nicktoons Network had done by shortening the intro and plastering its logo all over, I finally saw Animaniacs on DVD. Although the original opening was restored (Thank God!), I also noticed something interesting---there were several direct references to FOX made in these episodes that I never knew about before. Maybe these were originally there when they aired on FOX, and cut out after the move to Kids WB (and other networks), but restored for the DVD releases.

I also never got into Futurama, Family Guy and American Dad until they came to Adult Swim.
 
I can probably count on one hand the number of times I watched Pepper Ann in its original run on ABC, but when it came on Toon Disney I became a fan.
 
Avatar: the Last Airbender - the show always looked interesting to me, but I only caught bits and pieces when it originally aired. I watched it at the beginning of this year and couldn't believe how good it was - I don't think I've ever watched through a series so fast. Ordered DVD sets soon after and doubtless I'll be watching them several times.

X-Men Evolution - didn't bother with it the first time round largely because X-Men didn't appeal to me in general. But I grew to like (if not love) the franchise in the years since, and grew to really enjoy this cartoon.

WITCH - didn't feel compelled to investigate as it looked like another girls-with-magic-powers show. When I started to hear good things about the series, especially if watched as a whole. Watched the series when it was repeated and even though I don't consider it perfect, I'm glad that I did.

Downtown - this got so little attention I'm not even certain it was broadcast on any accessible channel - ordered the DVD set as the clips looked promising, and I liked MTV's "grungy" animations in general - I think if this show lasted any longer, it would have surpassed even Daria.
 
Dungeons and Dragons I'd never even heard of it during its original run, though I was old enough to watch. It wasn't until they released it on DVD that I finally saw it.

Alvin & The Chipmunks Didn't see a single episode until the reruns were on Nickelodeon.
 
Family Guy, believe it or not. I caught an episode or two here and there, but didn't actually start seeking the show out until it showed up on Adult Swim and on DVD.
 
Batman: The Animated Series. While I did manage to catch TNBA, I didn't watch the first series given how I was 3 when it ended. But eventually, I caught the show when watching Toonami.

Also, I never did watch Gargoyles until Jetix starting showing it.
 
Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, and most of the other Cartoon Cartoons because my cable provider didn't carry CN till 2002.

I suppose the old school WB and HB shows count too, since they were made ~30 years before I was born.;)
 
Found Invader Zim on Nicktoons Network back in '05.

Found Futurama on Adult Swim back in '03. Watched its final episode (pre-revival) on Fox that same year.
 
I was aware of Freakazoid's existence, and I remember liking the theme song, but for some reason I never watched a full episode until the DVDs came out. I got curious when people on this forum started talking about how great it was, mentioning some funny jokes from it, etc. I checked out a couple of clips on Youtube (being sure not to watch any full episodes for fear of spoiling them) and decided to buy Season 1. Obviously, I loved it.
 
I didn't really become a die-hard King of the Hill fan until I caught the syndicated run of episodes on my Fox affiliate. Before that, I still enjoyed the show but I was only catching the odd episode here and there, nothing consistent.
 
Add me to the Gargoyles list. I first caught the show around 2002 at the recommendation of a number of members here.

King of the Hill, too. I never bothered watching it until it came to Adult Swim.

Oh, and can't forget Beavis and Butthead. I knew about them for years, of course, but I never bothered checking them out until seeing them parodied on Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged. I really wish I was a fan during the height of their popularity.
