Angels and Demons

Tom Hanks is going to be paid the biggest cheque in Hollywood history for starring in the follow up to The Da Vinci Code, 'Angels and Demons'. Personally i think this is money well spent. Hanks is a superb actor, a personal favourite of mine and i thought he was brilliant in The Da Vinci Code. The critics gave Hanks and the film a lukewarm response but i think they will prefer Angels and Demons. I've got to say i thought the book was better than The Da Vinci Code, the plot is really gripping and there's a lot of action revolving around Rome, so it won't be too dificult to make into an exciting film. My only worry is that there is a lot of plot to fit into the film, so they may have to sacrifice some really good parts. What's everyone else's views?

As long as they ignore the silly CERN stuff at the start, it may be a decent stab. The book (much like DVC) is a series of set pieces so not too much of the plot neeRAB to be missed out. They may need to re-write the end as well - it's nearly as laughable as the start.

The Da Vinci Code movie was really terrible. I still can't believe how much so. It felt like three actors reading parts of the book out to you rather than an actual movie, and then they raped the ending. It was obviously made too close to all the hype of the book.

Angels & Demons just HAS to be better. I hope they shoot at all the real locations (don't know if they allow stuff to be shot in Vatican City).

I seemed to be one of the only people I know or have heard of that enjoyed The Da Vinci Code, I read the book and that was miles better especially the ending but I still liked the film. I have Angels & Demons but have not read it, will see it in the cinema.
Not mad about Tom Hanks overall as an actor but he is still very good.

I'd be tempted to read it if I were you. I read both before I saw the film. Angels and Demons was (IMO) a far better book. I felt more engrossed in the story than in the Da Vinci code.

But I did enjoy the Da Vinci Code as well.

With regarRAB to Tom Hanks, I really like him as an actor, but didn't think he quite seemed, comfortable, in this role, but hopefully he will settle into it for the next film.

Same story.
Robert Langdon gets a phone call in the middle of the night, an old man in a European capital city has been murdered, a young girl related to the man who has been murdered teams up with Langdon to help him on a chase/treasure hunt through the city, racing against a baddie who's identity is kept secret, the bad guy's right hand man is a strong silent assassin who is killing people just before Langdon turns up, the police are inept, the baddie turns out to be someone you are meant to think is a goodie. The ending is total rubbish. And the Catholic church takes a hammering.

I liked it. Yeah, okay, not the best story in the entire world, but it was enjoyable. I agree that I preferred the book ending though, the film ending seemed...maybe a little too 'Hollywood' or something, I don't know. The flagellation scenes were a bit disgusting though. I know they were supposed to be, but that squicked me right out

Also, it's the first book that my dad's read in about twenty years that doesn't involve dinosaurs, submarines or dinosaurs on submarines, so if nothing else it's a good book for that!

I've read the Da Vinci Code and thought the book was excellent. Was really looking forward to watch the film and came out disappointed after with key scenes missing in the film. Hanks although a brilliant actor didn't seem to be how I imagined Robert Langdon in the book.

I'm yet to read Angels and Demons though. A lot of people have told me it's better than The Da Vinci Code.

Most of dan browns books have the same plot, refined after each new telling -

1. suspicious murder
2. secret organisation
3. big conspiracy, retelling of history
4. big cinematic scenes

I've still found them entertaining books to read, but I'd like him to try a different plot though.

I completely agree with you!!! :D
His hair was terrible.

The Da Vinci Code was an ok movie. The book was considerably better, though.
Angels and Demons is by far the best Dan Brown book out there. It is actually the prequel to the Da Vinci Code (if I remember correctly) and the plot is basically the same. Just better.

To the poster who said they'd wait for the movie: Read the book. It'll be much better than the film. Guaranteed.

I don't think Tom Hanks was right for the Da Vinci code. I thought the only good things about it were Ian McKellan and Paul Bettany.

I loved Angels and Demons - so hope this is better!

I Thought Clive Owen :p

I really really enojoyed reading Da Vinci code, but after watching the 1st ten minutes of the film i turned it off.

I enjoyed A and D much more to read so I'm hoping the film won't be a let down again.

Have you ever seen CERN ? :) Nothing like the book at all. To avoid spoiling the illusion of grandeur (Building 33 - Reception - is nothing like described in the book) they need to do this all on a set rather than on location.
