hahaha that's such a great introduction to the show! Jules you should definitely watch the entire series. I think I remember the season 2 season finale making me go "WTF" for about 9 months because I had no clue how they were going to get Nancy out of that situation.
It's definitely been one of my favorite shows for years! Oh and also, my roommate watched Weeds online during the school year and caught up and watched this season and she loves Andy/Nancy as well! Just thought that was cute and it made me happy she was on board.

I think that the show has remained a satire through season 4 definitely but you're right this season it isn't so much. I still think it's funny, but the Esteban angle doesn't provide any satirical comedy. I don't mind that it's more serious, but I've noticed it.

ITA. I rewatched their first scenes and I realized that right away they did not have a regular in-law relationship. It was different right from the start and I loved it!

I agree completely! To me though, usually when that happens in other shows that buildup without realizing it leads to like a one night stand or something spontaneous. But I think Weeds is going with the slow buildup once the feelings are already out there, which I like because shows don't often do that. I do agree that I'd love to see some sort of forward momentum in the finale though. But right now I just love them so much that I'm enjoying the ride rather than becoming frustrated as to when they are going to happen.
Also I love all of your season 4 examples of buildup - you are so right and all of that was so amazing!

Ahhhh that video is GORGEOUS. It makes me love them even more, want to re-watch the series AND convinces me that they totally love each other.
I think that might be a perfect assessment of Nancy and also an explanation as to why she left the note for Andy instead of Esteban. She may also think she'll hurt him. Andy did mention how the two previous Mrs. Nancy Botwins have ended up dead.

I agree, they've dealt with it every episode and done so very very well. I think they are spending a lot of time and effort on it and it obviously means something to the writers. But the end of the last episode was SO sad. I want to know her motivation for doing that so badly. It clearly ripped out his poor little Botwin heart.
Did you see the preview though? It looks like Andy's gone off the deep end next week because of it! :lol:

I liked Conrad and Nancy in the first few seasons, but as of last season I have fully jumped on the Andy/Nancy ship.
I agree. I was not to sure anything would come of this. I thought it would be dropped but episode after episode this season has delt with it. And gotten better and better.
I felt so bad for andy in the last episode. After what he had to do to try and get the money to take off with Nancy, she leaves him a note and moves in with her babies daddy.

I don't want to verbalize what I think the "scene" will be in case I'm completely off base and I come off looking like a dirty pervert, but NO I don't think it has been shown on TV before. And boy, has this show alone already shown a lot...
And oh, I love Lupita. I'm not even sure what her job description is, but she is probably the worst at it that I've ever seen. Back in Agrestic, I don't think she did anything, but I'm glad to see her back. I do miss when this show was a funny satire. Now only Andy will provide the occasional chuckle.
That video reminds me of just how many different haircuts JK has had over the course of the show. Hmm.

I haven't seen every episode of Weeds. But from the episodes that I've seen, it's kind of obvious that there is more to Andy and Nancy than meets the eye.
Even in the first episode when he's back, you get a sense that they are a bit more than just in laws. For instance, when Andy shows up in episode four of season one, he right away keeps calling her "Nancy pants" basically using his brother's nickname for her. Which would be a bit inappropriate. She tells him not to call her that. Then the whole scene where he tells her that he has her back, before he leaves, he also tells her that she looks hot in a leotard. There is just a different kind of chemistry there right from the start with them. The way that they interact is kind of intimate for in laws. Also, Andy's GIFT to Nancy in that first episode, LOL. A vibrator? Definitely not something in laws would give to each other as presents!
And yes, you are right. I do get the sense that the characters haven't even realized their feelings for each other till recently. Doug sort of opened Andy's eyes in season four. If he did not say anything, I do not think Andy would have thought about it at that moment.
That's why I have hope for Nancy in returning Andy's feelings because just like Andy, she might not realize them right now. After all, it seems like the both of them hadn't realized their feelings for years. Until now, when both are sort of confronting their feelings. Andy finally has his eyes opened. And for Nancy, it's not the best timing. Andy tells her he loves her right when she finds out that she's pregnant with another man's baby! Not good timing! Also, the fact that the situation is dangerous and unusual. I don't think Nancy has much time to think about her feelings for Andy or to really take a look at them. It's like everything at once is happening to her as well.
I just think that pairings can have build ups without the characters realizing their feelings for a while. The feelings grow. And for me, I right away see chemistry with these characters. The season four episode with Andy's realization is terrific. It's like he had no idea at all! But if you even look back at the earlier episodes in season four, you see more of the romantic stuff with them. Like the car episode where Nancy kisses Andy. And when she also tells him that he makes her laugh and that he has stepped up and that he's a good person. And most importantly that he is a good kisser! Then when she leaves him alone in that spot and comes back to find him not there, you see more of her feelings in a way. She starts calling him. She starts worrying about him. And she begins to literally sob when she cannot find him. Really crying.
But yeah, it's kind of interesting that it seems like others can see the feelings these two have before they do! Doug calling Andy on it. And then Celia coming back and asking if the baby is Andy's! That small part is funny. But yup, I don't think Andy had a clue about his feelings till the end of season four. And right now, I don't think Nancy is at a point where she can take her time to figure out how she feels about Andy. It's so hectic at this point.
I would like to see at least something happen with Nancy and Andy in episode 13 of this season, though. Aren't there like 6 months of breaks in between seasons? That's a long wait! That's why I'm hoping for maybe at least a real Nancy and Andy kiss! Or something of that sort.
