Okay, we have already looked into the Android Vs. iPhone iOS 4 stats that reveals smartphone market shares and they reflect the obvious ? Android OS is growing like never before. One look at these numbers and you get to know that 27% of all recent smartphone purchases have been Android devices.

This is from a story about the new Blackberry in my local paper, and it says android has 32% of the market share in the 2nd quarter.

Research firm Canalys estimates that Android had 34 percent of the U.S. smart phone market in the second quarter, compared with 32 percent for the BlackBerry and 22 percent for the iPhone, which is hamstrung by its exclusive relationship with AT&T Inc. Android and BlackBerry phones are sold by many carriers. RIM has had success expanding the appeal of the BlackBerry beyond the corporate world to consumers. The question is now whether it can hold on to its core constituents in corporate information*technology departments. IT people like Black-Berrys because they’re relatively secure and easy to manage. But that also means they’re locked down in ways that frus*trate their users, who may not be able to install the third-party applications they want.

Gizmodo just wrote an article saying how the latest flagship Blackberry Torch 9800 is underwhelming, and says that the time for BB to catch up to Android may well have already passed. As such, this may spell their doom: http://gizmodo.com/5603788/underwhelming-blackberry-spells-doom-for-rim

I agree with Gizmodo somewhat that there's nothing remotely exciting about the new BB, and I agree with the post above. They'll have their business user followers for a long time yet.

Still

well, i have a lot of respect for rim. they make really strong batteries and a really stable os. bb os definitely isn't as flashy or customizable as android, but i can definitely see why business exec's and stuff use bb's.

but android and ios go head-to-head in that they're both more fit for the average user who probably isn't using the phone to constantly check emails or anything. in that sense, android wins in pretty much every way. even the most tech-dumb people can pick up an android phone and love it--with so many quality apps (free ones at that), anyone can enjoy the experience. then there's the more intense guys who root their phones and overclock and just go crazy.

the bottom line is that iphones are only for show, and 90%+ of iphone users can't even make a good argument as to why iphones could be remotely better than an android phone. i know one guy who's a big apple fan--rocks a mac and iphone--and he'll put up a fight whenever i show him the specs on the latest and greatest android phone, and i respect that. but the majority of users just clearly lack a brain.

bbbbbbut we have multitasking, voice over and folders! LOL actually heard someone say that. was reading this apple biased magazine the editor literally said "as you can the android phones(galaxy s and nexus one) have better specs in terms of speed and memory as well as a rising OS(android) however its lacks OS and app support from developers. because of this i can not recommend android to any user." wtf. however i would like to point out the iphone 4 does beat out the nexus one(and other android phones) in some areas but overall Android>iOS. though i would REALLY appreciate it if google woudl improve androids dialer and media player.

That's one of the main areas where Apple fail. They refuse apps on the app store that duplicate core functionality.

So, with Android, if you don't like something (the messaging app, for example), you can swap it for one of 30 others on the Market. On an iPhone you're stuck with what you have.

Hey.. first post here.

My last phone was the BB Storm. I loved it for the first 90 days. After that, I grew to hate it more and more. I was so glad to be rid of it when I got my Droid X.

BB OS stable? Really? Hmm. Mine rebooted frequently at random times. Mine tanked so bad once about 6-7 mos ago that I had to reload its OS. It dropped calls pretty frequently, and call quality was not that great. It was awful using the BB itself, and was tolerable using a BT headset.

The OS was one of the most confusing to use. Many parts of it made NO sense. The virtual keyboard was impossible to type on. I could go on and on about this POS but there's no point.

My Droid X, while far from perfect, is a HUGE improvement. I also have an iPad, and while it's cool in its own way, Android is FAR more usable. I'm looking forward to an Android-based tablet. Now that's gonna rock. Android + a bigger screen == WOW.

My iPad will be even better when it gets iOS4, but even then, I still don't think it has a real filesystem. Heck, if I'm browsing on my DX and find a PDF I want, I can download it and read it later, transfer it to the PC, whatever. On the iPad, it's a bigger pain. Yesterday I found a zipfile of three PDFs I wanted. No point in downloading them on the iPad. On the DX, no prob, download the file, transfer to PC later, or heck, I bet the DX could even unzip them.

Android is a real OS. iOS (any version) is an appliance OS. It's too dumbed down in many ways. Apple does have most of the UI interactions down to a science though, I'll give them that. They just need to loosen up the reigns a bit.

But in terms of ultimate power and flexibility, Android has it all over the iPhone.

Great first post. Everyone will love you here

One of the major updates in the next release of Android (Gingerbread / 3.0) is big user interface improvements.
