Android phone apps? Will they all work on this phone?

Im thinking of getting a Acer beTouch E400 (http://phandroid.com/acer-betouch-e400/). Since all android phones are different how do I know if an Android app from the market place will work on it? Does it only depend on the OS version or is there more to it? Thanks
