Android Firmware Update Problems ...

Last night I went ahead and took the plunge ... Updated the Firmware on my Archos 70 Internet Tablet 250GB (2.1.3 - Android 2.2.1).

My tablet still worked after the update. Slower than before though.

This morning I found out that I can't get online!

None of my four radio apps work (they all worked fine before).

Bible.is no longer works.

All three of my browsers no longer work.

Firmware Update doesn't work (can't connect to the Internet).

Wi-Fi shows that my Archos is connected to my Internet service. My son and I are both online with our computers, so there is nothing wrong with our Internet connection.

Looks like I have no choice now, but to reformat the Archos and start all over again (for the 4th time!!!!) .... That will be very time consuming, as I will have to download all of my many apps all over again, and then reload all of my files all over again ....

If you format the Archos the firmware should still remain at 2.2.1 (Froyo). I'm sorry you have to go through all that though

Looks like I don't have any choice at this point. My Archos will not show up on the desktop of my MacPro. Did not have this issue before the Update.

I downloaded the Firmware Update to my MacPro. Was hoping that could just transfer to the Archos, but can't do that now, since the Archos will not mount on the MacPro desktop.

I've tried four times now, but still no luck .....

Yeah... that should clear up the problems on the device. But as for recognition of your MacPro - tell me if the problem is still there after the wipe. I'll try to help ya out.

I reinitialized my Archos 70 IT, and started out clean. Still having problems ... Have to reboot every few minutes, just so I can get online.

There is nothing wrong with our Internet connection (Charter 16mbps) on all three of our computers. My Archos seems to be working just fine, only that I keep losing Internet connection with these six different apps:

-- Dolphin Browser Mini
-- Dolphin Browser HD
-- Dolphin Browser
-- PowerAMP
-- TuneIn Radio
-- Bible.is

Oh yes, my Archos mounts on my MacPro desktop now with no problems. I've put a few of my files on the Archos. My MP3s are working. Need to download an app to read PDF so I can check out the documents ....

It is so odd how none of the dolphin browsers work. Does your stock one work with a consistant internet connection? And it's a good thing the MacPro is recognized... bc I wouldn't know what to tell you on that issue...

I didn't like the stock browser. Too slow and limited. All three Dolphin Browsers have been working just fine on my Archos 70.

When I first got my Archos 70, it mounted on the desktop of my MacPro right away with no problems! I actually expected that to happen anyways. Had lots of issues and had to reformat three times within only the first two days!

That was a pain, because I had so many apps to download all over again, since I couldn't back-up those apps.

My Archos 70 worked ok about half the time, although sometimes would be quite slow, sluggish, hang up .... Internet connection at home was good, mostly sold connection, not too slow.

When I would turn the tablet from portrait to landscape, sometimes would take one minute or even longer before the icons on the desktop would show up. That was a real pain, because every time I would go to pick up my tablet, everything on the desktop would disappear, and I'd have to wait a minute or longer to reappear ...

Then the real trouble started a few days ago when I updated the Firmware! I read many posts about the various issues people have been experiencing with the Firmware update, but also read that some people were not having any serious problems. So I thought I would take a chance ....

Unlucky me .... !!! The main problem I seem to be having so far is WiFi is very unstable. Sometimes the connection only last for a few minutes (less than five minutes!). Sometimes it will last 10 minutes, or 15 minutes. Sometimes I can't even get a connection at all for awhile.

The only way that I can get connected again is to Reboot.

Hopefully the next Firmware Update will be more stable ....

Yeah. Wow. It definitely sounds like the new update is super unstable. Might want to talk to their support to see if you're the only one ... :/

I know that I'm not the only person having problems with the newest Firmware Update. I've been following many threads on the ArchosFans Forums. Lots of people are having a wide variety of issues.

Now I'm having new issues:

-- can't turn off the screen
-- desktop disappears, then reappears, but no icons, until a minute or so later, then everything comes back
-- when I flip the tablet from landscape to portrait or visa versa, desktop disappears, then everything comes back a minute or so later
-- desktop turns black (not off), with nothing there, until a minute or so later ...

Still losing WiFi. Music files still skip (like vinyl records that skip).

All of my music files work just fine on my desktop, and my son's Archos 20b, and the CDs that I've burned.

Got the WiFi problem resolved:

Settings,
Wireless and networks,
WiFi Settings,
WiFi On
Hold down on your active network till a window pops up.
Select Modify network.
You may have to scroll the next window up, but look for Disable Powersave.
Put a check in that box if there isn't already on there.
Tap on Save.

Called Archos Tech Support today. They figured out what the problem was with the power button not turning off the screen:

> Settings > Applications > Development > Take a Screenshot (turn this off)

Other than a few quirks, my tablet seems to be working pretty smoothly now.
