Andersonville prison or Camp Douglas:?

Douglas has many commanders for it's run.
At least one of them authorized cruel punishments to outright torture.
There use to be look-out pavilions that civilians could buy tickets for to look into the prison.

Andersonville had Henry Wirtz. From most accounts, he did what he could but his hands were tied. The south barely had enough food to feed its tropps, much less prisoners.

I'd say Douglas was worse. Even the norths own inspectors (the health dept of its time) declared that the only way to save camp douglas from the vermin and polution was to burn it to the ground.
 
Most prison camps in the USA during our civil war were dreadful places, but I understand the commandant of Camp Douglas actually tried to make imprisonment less harsh on the Confederates under his control. If you think Andersonville was bad, y'ought'a study Elmira (Hell-mira, as the unfortunates incarcerated there termed it. Chemung County has recently been restoring part of the original camp, and there's an annual Civil War encampment nearby each spring. I've been several times, portraying a Pinkerton agent or a Union regimental surgeon...
