edit:Officers went to the Mariner Loop home after receiving a call at 9:04 p.m. about weapons being brandished, according to a police incident log. In a press release, police did not say exactly when the shooting happened.

Police scanner traffic indicated the shooting happened about 10:20 p.m.I'd guess the Census worker went to the house originally when it was light. I mean, the sun sets here at 9 pm... and the article says they called the cops at 9:04... Not sure why it took over an hour to shoot the loony bat, however.
 
Sounds like the Census worker fucked up.

You of all people should know, an officers first duty is to return home safely after their shift is over.
 
We don't really know how long after they knocked on the door that they called the cops. 9pm is getting dark, for sure. But had he knocked on the door at 8:45 it wouldn't have been. (And it could easily take 20 minutes to walk back to the car and drive home and then call the cops). So maybe the Census worker fucked up, maybe not. Not really enough info to be sure.

However, regardless of whether it was broad daylight or just after sundown, pointing guns at cops is a bit batshit insane. So...
 
Surely 2 officer's could have over-powered 1 elderly woman without fucking shooting her?
 
edit: Just looked it up and dusk starts at 8:50 in Yuba City... So yeah, the Census worker probably did fuck up. Doesn't justify the homeowner threatening the cops by pointing her gun at them and refusing to stop however, which is what caused her death.
 
Apparently they also arrested a 51 year old man named Lionel Patterson who was armed with a pistol.

Now the thing I wonder is ... what the fuck is a Census working doing at someones house at 10:20 at night?
 
my girlfriend told me that a census worker was in the hallway of their apartment building and harassing her roommate around 10 pm. kinda late if you ask me...
