Ancient Greek Civilization?

Since I finished my last semester at college, I've had a lot of free time to read. I'm very intrigued by the Ancient Greeks. I do have a couple questions though.

What were similarities and difference between world views of Spartans and that of Athenians?

What was the importance of the Polis to the Greek concept of the importance of the individual?

What Greek ideas are still important in our modern society today?

spartan were immigrants who believed in martial power
athens believed they were indigenous and lived life in their area as theirs
the spartan had compulsory homosexuality and child molesting
athens was of the mind and body

greeks existed as part of a polis no polis no man
