Marketing and analysis firm eMarketer predicts that Google's Android operating system may surpass iPhones by the end of 2012. Android-equipped phones will increase their market share to 31 percent over the next two years from 24 percent in 2010 while 6 percent in 2009. Apple's iPhone, meanwhile, will stabilize at 30 percent, up only a bit since 2009.

“The open-source Android OS requires no licensing fee and allows handset manufacturers and wireless carriers considerable latitude to customize the user interface according to their desired specifications,” said Noah Elkin, an analyst at eMarketer and author of an upcoming report on mobile devices. “With a growing roster of manufacturer and carrier partners in every major market and market segment, scale for Android is coming quickly in terms of device, market share, apps and ad revenues.”
Personally, I think competition makes perfect and hope Android will release more competitive products! What do you think about Android and Apple, let‘s share the opinion here in the comment site!
