Analyst: MS lowering shipment of 360s in Spring in order to bring in $100 cheaper 360

While no one knows for sure what will happen, I only see MS doing a price-drop because they feel that the PS3 at this point is still a potential threat.

Which its not.

yet.

$199 Core and $299 Premium will make the 360 a beast. The core+memory card (they're releasing a 512mb card soon to replace the current 64mb card, for close to the same price as the 64mb card, which is why I believe core won't disappear for a while) would be the price of a Wii, and the Premium will be half the price of a PS3. The new Premium will NOT have HD-DVD, but it WILL have a bigger harddrive and HDMI.

I think the 360 would clean sweep 2007 if they do the $100 price cuts on both SKUs and replace the $30 64mb memory card wtih a $40 512mb memory card (sell off the old one for $10 clearance) and clear out the 20gb harddrives for $70 a piece and sell 120gb harddrives (on new Premiums) for $125.

My guess is that they would reduce the size of the die in both the core and premium and clean up the other parts of the manufacturing process before they introduced a third sku.

Two years is a long time without a price drop, so I think you can sort of expect one sometime in 2007. I would think that they would want to make some profits after lowering their manufacturing costs before dropping the price though unless they want to perpetually lose money.

Well 360 is also competing against the $250 Wii. Dropping the 360 to $199 and $299 would definitely help them in that battle. It would also make it easier for people to own both a Wii and 360, which MS has been championing themselves, and which I believe will be very common in the US. Most of my friends and I are Wii360 owners already.

Once Nintendo gets moving on the online multiplayer market I'll most likely pick up a wii. My dad keeps asking about it, and it's definitly something that I could get my Dad, Mom and Sister all playing.

Other than that as of now it doesn't seem to be a great investment as far as games come. There are like two or three games out that I'd want. I want to see a Top Spin, a Table Tennis, an MLB game, I mean Wii sports is fun but it gets old after a while, and it's always nice to actually use some of the graphics power.

And of course, as I was typing this I realized that my Dad is at Costco now and its a high possibilitly that my sister might convince him to buy a Wii, if they've got some in stock.

yeah i doubt it will. they might add the 20gig hard drive to it and sell it at 250 to compete with the wii. then put the 120 gig hard drive in the premium, still include the wireless, etc, and then sell it at 350.

So, you'd be willing to pay $599.99 for a Zephyr with built in HD-DVD? Oh, wait, it has a 120GB HD. That'll be $699.99, please.

Or would you like to pay $399.99 for that package, too?
