An XC bike as a Trails bike?

I have an XC bike but i want to learn some trails bike moves(like rear wheel hops and pedal kicks). Should I use a shorter stem or a longer one, or does it even matter?
 
Well depending on your xc bike I don't think you can use them as trail bikes or for jumping. I think you should save up the money for a dirt jump bike with stronger rims and gearing and the dirt jump forks. You could sell your xc and use that money to buy a dirt jump bike with mid gearing so you could still climb the hills and go down in the higher gears.

I would recommend to have a look at Kona,Gint stp , spicealized and GT you would probly have to spend around $600-$1000
