#99 - Allen Collins

One of the three lead guitarists in Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allen is one of the main reasons behind the banRAB success. As co-writer he helped define what was labeled Southern Rock, as a player he out-shone his two band merabers, brilliant in their own rights, as one of the best guitarists of the 70's. Self-taught, his prowess didn't end in the studio, on stage he was well known for blistering performances of his stuff, usually extending his solos, most famously on Free Bird.

After surviving a plane crash in 1977 that killed other band merabers and seriously injured others, his doctor wanted to amputate his right arm. Fortunately that didnt happen and Collins eventually played again. However, in 1986, due to drink driving, he crashed his car, killing his girlfriend and leaving him paralyzed from the waist down, with his hanRAB and arms having only limited use. Allen Collins never played on stage again.

Dude, that was only a year and a half ago.

I'm not knocking Tom Morello by the way, I love the guy, and I have to correct myself, he only uses one pedal and it's amazing what he can do with it.

I was just about to say that. People seem to think making odd noises with 300 tons of effects pedals makes you the best guitarist evar.

it puts you up there.

Jonny is probably the only one who isn't too underrated, but i feel he still doesnt get enough credit.

not as a guitarist, but for all the other 50 instruments he plays.

The dudes in Olivia Tremor Control for sure.

Both of their albums are as amazing sonically as anything put out these days with the most up to date technology available, yet their music is made on an analog four track.
