An interesting topic on western civilization between the 17th, 18th, and early 19th

century...? I have a paper for my Western Civ II course, it's not due until May, but the topic is due soon. It can be anything relevant to development of civilization during the previously state time periods. Examples: events, people, movements, political systems, culture, society/social, intellectual, artistic, militaristic, philosophical, ect.

I'm just having a hard time coming up with a really good topic that would be interesting to write about, any suggestions?
 
The change in, and recognition of, international law. Start with H. Grotius, "The Laws of War and Peace", and contrast with some later writers.
