One of the problems with adding millions of more people to the system is a lack of doctors; there are shortages in many places right now and most are at capacity. To increase the #'s, the gov't could introduce a program like military service: in exchange for a free medical education, the students contract for a period of time of service in public hospitals, say 7 years. After that, they can go into private practice or continue in gov't service at a higher salary. No loans to pay back, no insurance hassles, everybody wins. Whadaya think?
"That program already exists."
-Any more detail than that? What's it called?
When was it started?
