An idea for everyone on this board!

I was thinking of a cool annual event that could be adopted by animation fans the world over. Wrestling has WrestleMania and Bound for Glory, sports have the Super Bowl and World Series, poker has the World Series of Poker, Star Wars fans have "Celebration", comicbooks have the Comic-Con, movies have the Oscars, music has the Grammys and Ozzfest, athletic sports have the olympics, video games have the e3....

What do fans of cartoons and animation have for an annual "fest"?

Well we could come up with a weekend each year that we dedicate to watching as many kick butt cartoons as possible! Weather it be in the morning before work or when you come home at night, set aside a few hours on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday once a year and order some good eats and break out the good liquor or soda if your a kid and enjoy marathons of your faverite cartoons!!! Nonstop uninterupted toons!! We would need to flesh out plans such as the actual weekend we will recognize as our toon weekend, and work out a name for the weekend but with enough support behind it we could really build a tradition here.

Some sample names...
"Toon-A-thon 08"
"Toonfest 08"
"Animation-Station 08"
"Animation Dedication 08"
"Animation-Fest 08"
"Toonamania 08"

What do you guys think???

To some people it's is like that everyday, but I am talking about a real holiday here, an umbrella to unite and give us our yearly event, our stake in the ground. Something we can claim as our own.

No takers on the idea I guess, oh well. I just thought it would be cool to have an annual event/holiday to call our own as fans of animation.

I love the idea. You mean an offical day, authorized? It should be called Geeks United Day;) Seriously, I would love that, and I don't know why no one came up with this idea sooner. Maybe this thread could serve as a petition to convince the powers at be? The only problem is that health officals would hate it. It's sit on your butt day. It should be in the winter. I still love it!

Maybe someday it could become recognized as the official holiday of animation fans the world over. A more approlriate name would have to be given to it. How about "Toonfest" followed by the year, "Toonfest 08". It would most likely take a few years before we would have the fanbase big enough to support it nationaly, but it starts right here! I'll post a thread called "Toonfest 08" where we would come up with the annual rituals. Due to work and stuff people won't be able to sit around all day and watch cartoons but before work or at night would be the best time for the toonathon.

Just pop in the DVD set of cartoons and watch away. Maybe there could b certain rituals such as eating cereal while watching. Let's flesh this out, any ideas???

While I like the idea of a kind of individual celebration of cartoons, I'd rather see an annual convention-type event that focuses on all animation and cartoons, domestic and foriegn, film and television, mainstream and experimental. This way, there can be a group celebration of animation and cartoons. There are some events that include animation in their programming (like San Diego Comicon) but none that focus only on animation. The reaction to CN's reduction in the airing of anime has fired me up that this might work, if organized in the right way.

Though a good idea, a convention would cost tons of money and not everyone would be able to fly out to whereever it may be. If we each celebrate it in our own way then everyone can become involved.

Yeah a convention/gathering would be tough to accomplish but maybe in a few years we will have the followers to pull something off! Someone should promote Toonfest on other board so it is not just our community who is aware of it, also I would like to see some more people from this board get more into it.

I may join a few other animation boards and promote it for us! People from 2-65 watch cartoons, this should be a success!

We have been organizing it in the official Toonfest thread. Guidlines are that on that weekend of the 28th, 29th and 30th of november we are all going to cram in as many cartoons to watch as possible, weather it be DVD or network. It is a weekend of rejoice and celebration for animation fans, and of course we will be chowing down on cereal the whole time. We will also be voting on our faverite cartoons of all time and discussing our experiences on the forum. This is YOUR weekend people!
