An Evening with S60 - More info!

I just posted this on my blog, but I thought I'd stick it here as well...

Hi all! We're just a couple days from the "An evening with S60" event!! The catering has been ordered, the beer and wine has been chosen, the S60 devices are on loan, the guest list has been prepared, the music playlist has been decided on, the super-cool-ultra-mystery-prize has been obtained, and I've yet to even think about what to say during my little two minute speech.

For all of you who are attending and will have a camera (that better be all of you, E61 users excluded), and for those of you who are unable to attend the event (I'm trying my hardest to make London & Helsinki the two next cities!)...I've setup a Flickr group. Throughout the night and afterwards, please send all your photos to: http://www.flickr.com/groups/s60online/ (it's a public group). Please use the tag "Evening-NYC", but no worries if you don't, I can add it later.

One special request for all those attending - Even though I'm going to make you all wear dorky name tags as you enter the store (mwahahaha!), I was hoping that everyone could get to know each other beforehand. Send a photo of yourself to the Flickr group and include your name (and whatever else you like, like forum username etc..) in the comments section. That way, everyone will know everyone before everyone arrives!

I'll be liveblogging throughout the evening (and I read that TheNokiaBlog will be too), so please visit this blog during the event! Dan will be running around with a video camera and we'll be uploading video to our YouTube channel (http://youtube.com/s60online) all night long. And I'll have my podcasting equipment with me for some impromptu interviews (Darla & Stefan are my first victims!).

Really looking forward to seeing you all there!!!!

P.S. There's been a few people who said, "I wanna come" then I sent them the registration/questionaire e-mail, and never received a response. So please get that to me asap!! E-mail me with any questions: phillip dot schwarzmann at nokia dot com

Yay 2 more days. Good idea on the flickr group. Itll make it easier to introduce each other.

It's also a place where you send brazilian grapplers. Hairy male brazilian grapplers.

Also OP, confirm/deny that a N95 is the super secret mystery prize?

Sounds like a really exciting evening! I'm glad to hear that more are planned, even if they're not in my area. Phil, is this something we may see more of, or will it be a one-time shot?

I could see this as the beginning of something great for S60 in the States, 2-3 times a year or soemthing. I dunno, maybe I'm just a positive thinker.

not to get this thread too off course, but I'd like to see a marketing campaign showing some of the cooler features of S60, kinda like those flash demos on the S60.com website, only in a commercial. I mean, those demos are really only what, 10 seconds long? Use another 10 at the front to set up the need for the demo, and the back 10 for follow through info and to tag a certian device. It's called a doughnut spot, we use them in cable all the time.

Sadly my wife has thrown a wrench in my plans. She flies out on Friday morning to go to a bridal shower in Atlanta. I'm taking my daughter to school B&E on Friday morning and just cant swing going up to NY for a few hours. I found that out shortly after the announcement so I never RSVP'd so I wouldnt take a spot for someone who would actually be able to attend.....trying to be a team player.

Even though I'm a little disappointed at Nokia's lack of handsets with 850mhz (and now 1900mhz hsdpa), i must say that I really respect Nokia for embracing it's most loyal fans though these online forums and support for bloggers (ie. darla).

I wish I could fly out there but it's not feasible for me in the middle of the work week.

Maybe one day you guys will come out to Toronto.

Have fun everyone and I look forward to seeing pics and hearing about the night.

It's beyond too bad! I'm sure "next time" is a long ways away. Skipping out early would have been tough to sell as I was out most of last week with strep throat anyway.....responsibilities can really suck some times!
