An economic alternatiave to Dodge Ram ?

I adore Dodge Ram 1500 "crew cab" , however it's not a realistic car to buy as it's a serious Gas-guzzler "in my book" .

My question , is there any alternative cars that shares the look , size & capabilities - somehow - of the dodge ram but has a smaller engine "or runs on diesel ?

Chevy has a hybrid pickup in development and may be a purchase option.

The ram has a diesel option, about $5000.00 extra.
With a smaller engine you get less capability.
