I re-watched this recently on dvd and had forgotten what a great film this is - scary (especially the dream sequences) and funny by turns. John Landis' finest moment IMHO.

80's lycanthropy at its best. Anyone else agree?
 
Yeah, totally loved it.

Not seen it recently, but I remember the effects being pretty damn good for the time.

Black humour at it's finest, and the moors with the mist and the howling was pretty scary too.

Top film.
 
That dream sequence gave me nightmares for years! I haven't seen the film in ages, hopefully it's still as good as I remember (the first time I saw it was on a black and white tv when I was about 12!)
 
I went passed that pub a few months ago, the pub used in the movie, that is.

It's north of Hirwaun on the A4059 in the Brecon Beacons, it sits virtually on it's own on a sharp bend. I only just spotted it at the last second.

It's called The Lamb, although I've been told it was called something else. I guess it was changed in honour of the movie.

I was 12 when I first saw this movie and it terrified the life out of me. To this day the distant howling that grows closer out on the moors gives me the shivers.

And it's only relatively recently that I noticed the only full body shot of the werewolf, looking down when the man is on the escalator in the Underground.
It passed me by for years. :confused:
 
Same here - I have'nt watched it yet but I do recall laughing hysterically at the the scene where Jack introduces David to his victims in the Porno cinema!!
 
I think this was one of the first films I ever saw - my delightful older brother held me down on the sofa when I was about four!
Saw it again as a teenager, and realised how good it was - the special effects were brilliant for their time (still look pretty good if you ask me), and I love how they managed to combine humour and horror. The ending is so upsetting!
 
The film is directed by John Landis who also did the Michael Jackson Thriller video using the same techniques for the transformation.
 
Definately one of my all time favourite movies! Shame it's release coincided so closely to 'The Howling', and overshadowed it, cos that's a brilliant film too. While I prefer American Werewolf, and the effects are better, i'd still recommend The Howling if you havn't seen it yet.
 
I remember seeing the reviews when it first came out and thinking it was a must watch film. Actually saw it for the first time last year. It is a dreadful film IMHO.
 
Have you read The Howling books by Gary Brandner? They are very different to the films but quite good fun (at least they were about 25 years ago when I last read them).
